Well, if you wanted higher damage levels and damage after lighter contact,
you got it :)

You can't even _brush_ the wall at Daytona without raising up the right side
of the hood and dropping speed.

Doesn't bother me, but some folks are gonna have FITS with this new damage
model.

Good :)

What is nice is if you get some serious damage, ain't no amount of repair in
the pits going to bring you back up to speed, at least from what I have seen
so far.
I was running Lowe's, banged up my rear end, and after fixin ( notice the
use here Eldred:) ), it up, I was still not up to speed and the ai were
blowing me away.
Maybe that will help motivate drivers to drive cleaner online some :).

I do still think that additive repairs are an important aspect that is
missing from the game.

Nope - the ones that crash without caring STILL won't care.  That's my

Amazing insight you have there Eldred. Just spent 9 solid hours racing
online, and not only do they still not care if they crash, they also still
do not care if they wreck you !!

Swear to God, if just one more baboon announces "this is my first race
online w/ 2003" and then goes 3 wide in turn one with that damnable jasper
setup I'm gonna scream....

No kidding; I think it took about 10 open races before I managed to finish
one without some crazies taking half the field out, either on purpose or
through sheer incompetence.  Throw in a dose of warping racers and it gets
pretty frustrating.  About 8 attempts in, my LPI was 2.8 and I'd just gotten
taken out again, this time *behind the pace car*.  That gets old quick.

It's a moot point now, but a think another great example of why online
racing sims need a "driver certification" tool; something along the lines of
Nascar Heat's "Beat the Heat", but less entertainment-oriented.  If people
were required to achieve some level of skill and discipline that could be a
server-option joining hurdle, ala ranking and LPI, I think most of that
would be solved.

It's not people who try to but can't drive that are the big problem; it's
the ones who don't even try - they just show up, wreak havoc and bail for
the next race, right foot planted.

Oh well; enough ranting.  Back to working that LPI back up... ;-)

Hear hear !!

Got took out today by one of those idiots who goes three wide right after
the start. He wedged himself in between me and the car in the low line
leaving me nowhere to go but into the wall and then up in the air once the
low car drifted him into me. Asked him about it in the lobby and his reply
was something along the lines of
"Not my fault bro. Guy on the inside hit me"

Fool.

Speaking of rankings...

Anyone else dissapointed that they STILL have not incorporated the tracking
of Wins, Top 5's, Top 10's and Poles like NROS did?

If they can track what the are tracking, it would seem to me that this would
be a piece of cake.

You know why don't you Larry?  WARP! Plain and simple.  I mean if it's a
warp it's a warp..  Yea I hate to hear it also but it happens ALL THE fn
TIME!  I know you've seen the replay triple header before?.  The replay from
the server is completely different than either driver which is also
different from each other.  And I mean REALLY different, to the extent of no
one knowing for sure what happened.   Thats why I get so po'd about racing
incidents.  If youre going to point a finger you better watch my replay, the
server replay, and youre replay prior to stickin it out there.  The warp
will continue in N6 without question.  Sometime in the future that will all
change, just not today ;)  And don't get me wrong about this, N6 has the
best netcode out there for racing it's just not perfect by any means either.

Out of shame I am removing myself from this thread. Just played around with

Because in a lot of cases I can see very clearly that it was NOT warp at
all.

It's become the ultimate scape goat for others***ups.

You can tell when warp really happens if you 've been around this game long
enough.

Of course it happens.  It has happened to me.

If you've been around this game long enough you know that warping can make
an opponents car appear to do anything, even what you consider "clearly not
warp".

You need to see their replay to see the situation they were presented with,
and how they responded.

In N2 (on TEN) I had two replays, both showed two cars side by side in the
turn.  On my replay I was the low car, On the other (from the other driver's
computer), I was the car on the outside.

Warp is evil.

Funny, I don't see Larry's reply but I do see it in Mike's.

And...

You can NEVER see what I see period.  You may THINK you see, but you really
don't see <g> (Obiwan maybe)..  Say that twice fast, after 2 40's ;)
Seriously though, you have to watch MY replay if you want any respect from
me cause thats the nature of the beast.  Don't accuse unless youre willing
to watch it.  No matter how long youre around this game for.  And Ive been
around since nearly the beginning,  I still have my beta floppies for ICR,
and the 486/20 I ran it on <g>.

BTW Larry, If I fuk up YOU WILL see a *S* sometime during or after the race.
Thats how you know it wasnt warp from me.  I don't apologize when it's warp
either.  And Warp isn't an excuse it's reality.  This stubbornness has
costed me many times but hey, thats me and I dont really care if anyone
likes it or not :)   Like Rusty says "Im not here to make best freinds, Im
here to RACE".
