Screenshots show damage, but no matter how hard I hit something, not even a
scratch...WTF, is it me?

Yes, it's you. Maybe you have damage turned off in the options?

I don't see that option to turn "damage" on or off, however, I did notice
there is some distortion in the sheet metal and the lenses of the lights are
broken, but, the sheet metal damage requires a collision of such magnitude,
that the car should have been disabled.  At least the radiator broken!  The
damage modelling shown on their web page has bumpers*** off and hoods
bent, the best I got (70 mph into a tree) was my hood flops around a bit.  I
also did not notice any performance decrease after what I thought should
have disabled the car (24 years experience with Mercedes and hundreds of
wrecks).  Only two were my own! : )  (wrecks that is).  I love the sim, just
wanted a bit more, wahhh!

Must be you, I've had my car well and truly bent out of shape.

Cheers,
Rod.

This has been a problem well known to *every* Rally-based sim (or
semi-serious) games on the market.  They have difficulties coping with the
whole situation of damage dynamics.  The number of times an average gamer
goes off-road in Rally sims is incredibly high compared to others types of
sim, so they can't really put realistic damage.

The damage is cumulative, so just hitting one tree isn't likely to cause
much damage.  Try hitting ten or twenty.  The damage obviously isn't slighly
realistic, but you can definitely wreck your car if you feel the need to do
so.

No need to wreck the car, just don't be so forgiving that hitting ten or
twenty trees is what it takes to say "you suck and shouldn't drive a
wheelchair"!

Yea, that is why, most people wouldn't make it around the course. In
Mobil1 Rally Championship you can alter this parameter to your liking,
so if he wants *realistic* damage then buy that sim.

Why don't you pick up a copy of Mobil1 Rally Championship? You can
alter the damage amount in a cfg file to your liking.

Been there, done that, need new ***!  Bad habit of mine, switching around

That sim can hardly be called realistic.  Just the physics model of that sim
makes it qualify to be in the pre-alpha mode.

CMR2 where is the damage model?

CMR2's damage model is pretty non-existent. You get some visuals...broken
windows or lights and maybe a floppy hood or spoiler but nothing effect
handling.

I don't buy those who say RC2000 is better because you can tweak it...that
is only after 5 patches. Sure it might have been a bit better from the get
go but still not realistic. CMR2 has not had 1 significant patch yet (not
counting the Network fix patch) so it too may change.

Also I don't buy the fact that the games have to be dumbed down for arcade
racers...if any of the distributors really wanted to they could put in
options for a damage model so the PLAYER CAN CHOOSE the one best suited for
their needs/skills --- none, arcade or realistic. I think this is more about
the lack of time and that it probably is pretty hard to get a realistic
damage model in a rally game.

So, while all of the games out their recently have had their good points,
none of them can be considered the definitive rally experience.
