Hi all,

If i run GPL the sound is distortid, the only way i can get around this is
by tuning the hardware accelration down in xp...

My O.S is XP, and i have a Sound blaster 1024..live...

My GPL is version 1.2.0.0.1

My sound blaster drivers are  5.1.2603.0

Any help would be good..thanks

I also had problems with GPL and a SoundBlaster Live under WinXP Pro.

I ended up switching to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (priced at only $40 every
month or two at Circuit City).  It was better, but I still experienced
fluctuations in overall sound volume (only in GPL).  Setting the sound
acceleration to "Basic" finally solved my problem.

Same here. It doesn't seem to affect anything else noticeably. You could
also try using the original drivers off the CD instead of later ones.
Try a different driver version basically, you might get lucky ;-)

From an FAQ for GPL at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=105748

Sound goes funny after a collision.
1- Upgrade to the latest drivers for your sound card.
2- From Albher: "Allthough not fixing it totally, the older SB drivers
version 3509.2 are known to help a great bit, at least in improving
the situation. I use them by myself without problems on WinXP and
before that in Win2K. You can find that driver at
http://www.omnisoft.com.mt/drivers/SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe(9,4MB!)
Anyway, take care that all sounds are sampled to 22050Hz, using
Goldwave (found at http://www.goldwave.com/release.html ) or else
you'll get distortion in any case. With that driver, you can again
select full acceleration in DirectX (run dxdiag.exe), in case you
lowered that value for other drivers."
3 see http://forum.racesimcentral.com/sho...=sound+solution
4- see http://forum.racesimcentral.com/sho...093&postcount=6
5- Someone reported that when the sound goes odd, you can do a Shift+R
with the engine at a certain rpm (you'll have to experiment) to clear
it up.

Sound problems with Windows XP and SoundBlaster Live sound cards.
1- SB Live cards and XP seem to be an unfixable problem, unless new
drivers can cure it. Usually a new (different) card is needed.
2- Someone has reported that the latest SB drivers fixes this problem.
See
Sound Blaster driver d/l
3- Go to the Audio Properties and go to the 'Audio' tag, then click
the advanced button which will open another window. Click the
'performance' tag. You should see a Hardware Acceleration slider.
Bring it down a few notches until it says 'Basic Acceleration Only'.
4- see # 2, 3 and 4 just above. One of these should help, hopefully.

Great info.... i`ve tried the sound acceleration trick before and it
works... but it messes up my other stuff... i think a new s/card would be
the best option thanks all !!

One could also try these KX drivers for the Live cards. People say
they fix issues in some other games. I have an Audigy2 and use the KX
drivers in my Win98SE install but still use Creative's in XP.  They
are WDM drivers so not really the best choice for Win98SE as in my
experience WDM sound drivers lag a bit under Win98SE. I tried the
Creative WDM drivers in Win98SE and they were crap. KX WDM drivers are
better. These drivers are designed for musicians so if you care about
EAX then don't use them.
