From an FAQ for GPL at

Sound goes funny after a collision.
1- Upgrade to the latest drivers for your sound card.
2- From Albher: "Allthough not fixing it totally, the older SB drivers
version 3509.2 are known to help a great bit, at least in improving
the situation. I use them by myself without problems on WinXP and
before that in Win2K. You can find that driver at
http://www.omnisoft.com.mt/drivers/SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe(9,4MB!)
Anyway, take care that all sounds are sampled to 22050Hz, using
Goldwave (found at http://www.goldwave.com/release.html ) or else
you'll get distortion in any case. With that driver, you can again
select full acceleration in DirectX (run dxdiag.exe), in case you
lowered that value for other drivers."

4- see http://forum.racesimcentral.com/sho...093&postcount=6
5- Someone reported that when the sound goes odd, you can do a Shift+R
with the engine at a certain rpm (you'll have to experiment) to clear
it up.
Sound problems with Windows XP and SoundBlaster Live sound cards.
1- SB Live cards and XP seem to be an unfixable problem, unless new
drivers can cure it. Usually a new (different) card is needed.
2- Someone has reported that the latest SB drivers fixes this problem.
See
Sound Blaster driver d/l
3- Go to the Audio Properties and go to the 'Audio' tag, then click
the advanced button which will open another window. Click the
'performance' tag. You should see a Hardware Acceleration slider.
Bring it down a few notches until it says 'Basic Acceleration Only'.
4- see # 2, 3 and 4 just above. One of these should help, hopefully.
