F1WGP and Win XP sound issues

I just picked up F1WGP 99 for the bargain price of $5 (AUSTRALIAN - $2.5US!)
and I am having sound issues under Win XP. I have a SB Live and it is quite
crackly.

Any thoughts or patches I should look for? How do I tell the version?

Overall a bargain game.

Check the Creative web site to make sure you've got the lastest drivers for the sound card.  If you do, try backing off the hardware acceleration on that card by going into Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Device Properties.  On the Volume tab, click the Advanced button in the Speaker settings section, then go to the Performance tab.  The top section in the Audio playback area is Hardware acceleration.  Move the slider left a notch at a time until the problem goes away.

F1WGP doesn't exactly have a big usergroup, hence the lack of
responses :-/
Don't they have an official website where you can look for help?

Try turning down the hardware acceleration on the sound card.  I believe some people have had to go all the way down (left) in order to eliminate the crackling.
