Win XP RC1 doesn't support Glide anymore :-(

Bad news for all 3dfx graphic card ( or just Voodoo3? ) owners! I just tried
to run GPL in Glide and Win XP RC1 just crashed. Voodoo3 1.04 drivers for
Win2000 and George Smiley's Glide Wrapper installed. This thing worked even
in the latest Win XP beta ( Beta2 ) but not anymore! And it's not just GPL,
other 3dfx gc owners are complaining about not being able to use Glide in
any game. Sad! I know there is a D3D rasterizer for GPL but image quality in
Glide is far superior. Hope somebody finds a fix soon!

No it's not. In fact the D3D rasterizer has higher res mirrors. The
D3D version looks just as good (or better) as the glide version.

then i must be missing something. washed out colours and other stuff that i
can't point my finger at or have to limited a knowledge of technical stuff
to argument my observation. and i don't care for mirrors anyway. too much
stuff going on in front and not many drivers that would go slower than me
:-) although i used to do the lap at the Ring in 8:17.xxx in Cooper. but
haven't played GPL for the past 9 months and now im trying to tame the BRM
with default setup at the Ring, arghh...

BTW, are you using voodoo3? what settings in core.ini and what settings in
registry for D3D for voodoo3? you know you can't adjust settings via 3dfx
tools (installation gives error) anymore in Win XP?

thanks,

Borut.

That's just the V3 D3D drivers, the colour quality I get in D3D with a GF2
is the same as a V3 with glide.  Something I can check because I have two
PCs, and the slower one has a V3.

No, I use a Geforce2 now. Maybe that's why D3D looks good for me. If
any API looked washed out it was glide, but that was due to the fact
that 3DFX always set the default gamma too high.

Wow... that explained it! I had posted in a thread earlier this week that
Glide looked much richer than D3D in GPL while D3D in N4 looked okay to my
eye but with N4 not having Glide to compare to I wasn't sure if it was just
me or not. Well, turns out that I haven't been paying much attention to any
references to D3D patches for GPL 'cause I was quite happy with Glide. Once
I installed the latest D3D rasterizer I notice a much better look to D3D...
almost identical to Glide but still slightly washed out.
I was wondering if anyone knows of tweaks to the core.ini file specifically
for V5 cards that will make D3D look just as good as Glide? I had taken Dave
H's advice about playing with the D3D settings in 3dfx Tools but I was
hoping for something specific to GPL as I am now sure that N4 looks as it
should and GPL's settings just need a little nudge in the right direction
looks wise.
TIA,
Robin
