I have a Hercules Game Theatre XP sound card and everytime I start a race, I
cannot hear my own engine sound in any view execpt***pit view.  If I go to
the options menu and check/uncheck the 3d Sound box, the sound will come
back.  You have to do this once at the start of the race and it stays fixed.
It's a little annoying but at least I know how to fix it.

I'm using an Audigy card with Win98SE and had the same experience, but
worse.  It did the same in NR2002 if you had too many sounds playing, but if
you either cycled through the driving views or reduced the number of sounds
it would sort it out.

The demo behaved similarly, but in the full game once I had checked 3D
sound, even if went back and unchecked it before quitting the game, the next
time I started the game the card would still be trying to do 3D, even with
the box unchecked.  Not only that, but I was getting 3D echoes of all the
sounds in Windows, like mouse clicks, etc. after quitting the game.  And if
I mucked with it much in-game, it would invariably lock up my PC.
Uninstalled, cleaned out the folders and reinstalled, and now seems OK.  Not
messing with 3D sound any more!

Odd; the only issue I've had trouble with in virtually every Papy release
has been sound, even with different sound cards and PC's.

Oops - just to clarify; I had no engine sound IN***pit view w/3D sound on;
which is a documented Audigy issue in the readme.  The rest, OTOH... ;-)

Sound has always been an issue with the Papy games. You wouldn't believe how
different mine sounds in OpenGL vs. D3D. Yep the graphics type makes a
difference. I have a Phillips AE sound card and I have to run 3d sound in
D3D or the sounds get stuck in a loop. After reading the readme file I'm not
really sure if there is a sound card that actually works.

I actually quit playing N2002 because of constant white noise when on
the track. I was hoping N2003 would fix that, but nope, same problem
in the demo, horrible white noise. Unless it's fixed, I'll have to
keep not playing N2k2 and not buying N2k3... ;(
