NR2003 - 3D Sound Issue

by T. Wortma » Thu, 29 Jan 2004 08:37:20

Little help....since installing the BGN/Truck patches, I have no
spotter when 3D sound is enabled. I have a Santa Cruz sound card that
certainly supports 3D sound, and have the latest drivers installed.

Anyone else have this problem and found a solution?

Try turning down the amount of sounds played to 8, that should do it.

I have both Audigy 1 and Audigy 2 in two sepperate machines, and had this
problem.  Also horrible echo effects that rendered using 3D sound just too
annoying to bother using.

Hope that helps you.

I'm still running the drivers off the CD. 3d sound, 24 sounds played, and
the spotter still works fine.

Thanks.....Figured the problem out. Had my sound set to 5.1 compatible
and NR2003 didn't like that.

*24* sounds played?!?  Damn, I think I turned mine down to 5(8?) - to improve
fps...  Man, if I had 24 sounds going I'd probably suffer from information
overload...

Ive always told ya I think sound or lack of was a problem for you.  Sound is
how  you get the "seat of the pants feel".  Thats how you know when youre on
the limit.  Driving without full sound is like driving with blinders on.

You must have a creative sound card. :)   Sounds have never been a big
performance hit for me, but my last two sound cards have been a Phillips AE
and now a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I stop buying Creative cards after buying
one of those POS Live 5.1s

The latest drivers are, um, not so good in NR2003 (if it's the June 2003
Release Candidates, that is).  I had no end of trouble in NR2003 with them.
The first TBSC driver that ever gave me trouble.

IMHO, the most stable set for NR2003 is 4161s.

The number of sounds was one of the suggestions made by David sometime last
year.  Honestly, I don't know how much of a hit THAT particular thing was,
because I changed a bunch of things at once.  Maybe I'll boost the sounds and
see what happens...

It is?  Honestly, I don't recall you saying anything about sounds before.  I
think all my problems are visual - I can't judge how fast I'm going very
well...
