Is it normal for the tracks to take 3 times as long to load compaired to F1
2002? (under win xp btw) Is there a fix?

Same problem here... I'd love to see a solution.  IIRC, the first few times
I played GTR the load times were fine.

It's extremely slow to load if you've got a large field of cars.  With the
same number of AI cars and the same track, GTR is only slightly slower than
F1 to load on my PC.

It is definitely affected primarily by the choice of field.  Choose just NGT
cars and see how fast it is.

Out of principle, I wouldn't complain if it took 10 times as long
considering what I am getting and how much I paid for it (I donated 10
pounds).  If you are like most and haven't paid anything, put a sock in it
:)

Hey Marc where did you donate to?  I went to the SBDT page but couldn't find
anything.  What is a pound compared to a dollar?  Just want to be sure to
give enough.

One British pound is roughly equal to $1.50 US. So 10 pounds is about
$15.00.

And it is equal to $2.50 Cdn, so it is $25 for me.

There is a link at the top of the official forum for a PayPal donation.

I also noticed this. Like other said, use only NGT or GT and it speeds
up considerably. I thought this was the case until recently. What I
did was turn everything OFF in the system tray. I didn't go as far as
ctrl-alt-del and turning everything off, though. The tracks loaded
MUCH faster, even with the full GT/NGT field! I used to load a track
and surf the web on my other computer, now I don't even have time to
do that since they load so fast. I also uninstalled Realplayer at the
time so I don't know if that had anything to do with it (who knows
with Real) but I just turn everything off anyway.

The other answer is to get shed loads of ram, buy a couple (or more) of
really quick hard drives and stripe em.

Always a good idea to run as little as possible in the background though.
