mod SimBin made for F1C before they decided to release the standalone (GTR)
product? Other than the recently released Nordschleife, that is. I'm
working on a story about race-sim mods for a car magazine and need some
examples. Thanks.

Where and when can we look for your story?

Thanks for the links. Most of them are down ATM. The ones linked to RSC, I
suppose.

Gawd...my mind is going to mush...I thought GTR 2k2 was for F1 2002 not
F1c. Any ISI based track can be made to work with GTR, but the newer ones
for F1c would require more tweeking. The problem with 2k2 tracks is that
everyone who was working with them, moved on to F1c and the tracks either
got updated to C status or ignored. So finding working sites will be
tough. I have some saved files..if you need any paticular track, gimmie a
shout, maybe I saved it.

ps.. just yesterday I saw a racing game story in some Car mag and was
disappointed your name wasn't attached. Do drop us a line when it's done.
You must be right - GTR 2002 musta been for F1 2002, not F1C.
No, I don't have any particular tracks in mind. I just noted the difference
in quality between the tracks in GTR (the commercial release, not GTR 2002)
and the valiant attempt at the Nordschleife, which winds up looking pretty
amateurish. I thought I remembered the earlier F1x tracks as more polished,
and since the N'schleife worked--after a fashion--w. GTR, I reckoned some of
the earlier tracks would be a more interesting drive than some of the
technically competent but emotionally vapid newer tracks (which epitomize
Ron Dennis' observation that the epicenter of modern F1 design is 80 mph in
2nd gear).

From what I've read, making tracks for GTR will not be quick. It was
supposed to be harder to convert, but as we have seen, guys have been able
to bring in f1c tracks. However, the features within the GTR tracks
probably will be tough to implement. i.e. dynamic lighting, and the track
marbles.
So getting a track into GTR will be possible. But having them look as
good or work as well will be a challenge. And since the problems seem to
be with the surroundings of the track, it will take longer, at least at
first.
