I run it on a generice 486dx4/100 overdrive. I can run lo-res with
everything on except grass/asphalt. In hi-res, I have to run with just
about everything off. The code was optimized for Pentium machines. I know
people with slower Pentiums that claim the game runs flawlessly in hi-res.
When I get my car paid off this year, I'm buying that Pentium, lo-res just
doesn't cut it with that game.

I'm running a 486/dx4-100 and I was having so much trouble getting
any
speed at Talledega that I uninstalled it from my machine. I could not get
the
car to go above the 170mph mark down the back straight in SVGA mode with
all but grandstands and car texture off. When I switched to VGA, the car
got
up to speed with all the graphics on, but it was real blurry looking
graphics.
System Setup:
AMD 486/DX4-100
Trident VLB 2MB DRAM w/s3 trio chipset
16mb RAM

resoltion,like you I had to turn almost everything off. I now have a
Pentium,the differance is
like night and day. The game is more responsive and alot more fun to drive

I have a Pentium 133 and an Intel based 486-100 so I think I can
answer fairly well for you.
The pentium as you would know has know problem. The only thing i turn
off is grass/ashphelt texture which i dont like anyway. On the 100 I
can run basiclly the same setting but in VGA which is not a problem as
it still looks pretty and being a spare machine the visitor has to use
it..:-)
Aslo i found that I turned the cars forward down to 15 in front and 2
behind and 2 heard. Apart from that know real worries...
