Is anyone still running GP3, I know there has been a lot of discussion on
F12001. I'm just trying to figure out how it compares. Also, is there a
place like GPL Rank for GP3?

GP3 is still pretty good, but F12001 beats it in every way except the
weather effects.

As long as Zandvoort 2000 has not been released for F1 2001, GP3 will
stay on my HD.. and I haven't had the chance to test the AI of F1 2001
after the patch, but before the F1 2001 patch I preffered the AI of
GP3 2000..

And telemetry -- and some aspects of replay (I would really LOVE a director
mode in F1 2001, also better camera angles, once again better telemetry,
and less choppyness to replays. And for God's sake, where do the TV
broadcast overlays belong if not in the replays?? And yet, there they
aren't!)

Apart from that... Let's say GP3 has been thoroughly uninstalled from my
computer...

I got both of them almost at the same time about 4 weeks ago, and
played both so far.
But I decided to stick with GP3 (and hope EA Sports will fix the
problems
with the game 8-) for following reasons:

1. No force feedback makes driving in F1 2001 difficult with my
Logitech
Wingman FF wheel, because it is too loose around center. I can be
much
more precise in GP3 with force feedback.

2. Can't make rear view mirrors work in F1 2001, which makes racing
difficult.

3. I do like driving school in F1 2001 and I am using it to learn
tracks.

So my recommendation is if you can affort both get them, hope for
patch from
EA Sports, use F1 2001 for driving school, use GP3 for racing. If you
can affort only one, go with GP3.

Try the F1 2001 patch, including force feedback :)
It's better than GP3's ff, and ehh.. on par with GPL's ff.

Ok, better. There.

I believe the patch solves that too.

Didn't someone make a telemetry add-on to F12001? I guess those are not
important options to me because I never use them. But, they are good points.
I watch the replay for a minute or so then get back to the racing. I use
other peoples setups too. :-)

I rate the AI of GP3 one notch up from F1RC. At least the AI in F12001
doesn't try to drive straight through you.

Guess you've been out of the loop. Get the patch, F12001 now has the best
FFB of any racing sim on the market. At least on my MS FFB wheel it is.

Get the patch.

Get the patch.

OK, OK, you go for 5 days vacation, and they finally release the patch.
Seriously, I didn't realize how important FF is for driving the car
precisely, especially if you have older, loose wheel. To feel the curbs,
and slides is important, but first thing is to put the car where you want.
Downloading patch as we speak!
But I still would get both game is money is not an issue. They are both
fun, and $20 for GP3 is not that much.

Yes, but if you *had* to choose then it is F12001.

Absolutely. GP3 2K to be more specific. I find GP3 to be have much more
depth to the tire model. The tires are what I respond to most when driving
at the limit in any vehicle on any surface. So whether it be my lowered,
stiffened, and chipped Fiero on the summer mt. roads or my Trooper on the
dirt mt. roads in the summer or winter, or my Gold Firefox 125 shifter at
the race track. Tires is it. Tires and right foot. That's 97 percent of my
universe when I'm out there. GP32K did loose a small amount of awareness of
available rear grip when moving up from GP3 but the trade off in detail,
depth, and sheer beauty of the tire model was well worth it. It is very,
very accurate at the road surface. Lacks a little "G" awareness, though. The
vehicle is damped somehow, but overall, the consequences are real and
require real knowledge and real techniques to drive effectively.

F1 2001 simulates, almost perfectly, a 1974 Datsun Pickup truck. It is much
more "Johnny day driver" friendly as, if you've never driven a highly tuned
road racer, you are more likely to "get" and enjoy the experience of driving
it quickly. The vehicle dynamics are abundant and pronounced. Tire model is
slim though. You get what the tires are doing through the interface instead
of "through the seat of your pants", if you know what I mean. Hard to
explain. Very, very fun. A lot of e***ment can be had.

Get both. GP3 for the feel of driving an F1 car and F1 2001 for driving a
really fun PU type arcade.

BS, either you are playing the PS2 version or you haven't set it up
correctly. You have a FFB wheel? F12001 gives the best feedback of the road
of any racing sim on the market, if you have a FFB wheel. You ever even
driven a 1971 Datsun?
