Nascar 2 Setup Woes

Ok...I've had the game since x-mas 96.  I've messed with it
unitl I'm really tired of messing with it.  $50 bucks and I've
yet to run a race (Although I have "played" the "setup" version
of the game many many times.)

Enough whining...see if you might know what is going on:

Computer:       NEC Ready 9616  P-120 w16meg
                Sound built into system board:
                Soundblaster Pro Compatible Sound Card
                Stereo,
4x CD  etc etc  running win95

Problem:
Audio       The only audio that can be heard is the
theme music during the intro..after that
                nothing.
Joy Stick    The software will not recognize that there is
a joystick present. Will not offer any options
other than playing via the keyboard.  I did
see the joystick configuration once, but it has
                since vanished.

Everything shows up in the test mode...but is not present during
the game.

Please help...I am getting really tired of playing this game
in "set-up" mode.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated !!!
Thanks !

First, have you tried to set it up and run it in a pure DOS environment?
I would try this first to see if your system is really compatiable.

The intro audio sound is by default a SoundBlaster sound only.  Have you
tried to manually set the Audio in the Setup according to the
information in your System Properties Device Manager?

Have you properly setup and configured your joystick inside Win95?  This
must be done in order for N2 to find it.

It really sounds like you may not have your system properly setup in
Win95 for sound and joystick.  Since N2 is really a DOS game, I suggest
first try making it work in DOS.  This may require that you setup a
"pif" to reboot to DOS and load your soundcard and CD-ROM drivers in the
Advanced Options in the Config.sys & Autoexec.bat areas.

A friend had the same sound problem as you describe and we fixed it by
adding more ram memory. Seems that the game and the OS were using so much
that the game simply dropped the sound so it could execute and run. Just a
guess as to the actual cause but we have to thank someone at Sierra, they
actually came up with this solution after about 6 calls! Try CTRL+ALT+DEL
and see what all your computer loads at windows start up. I got his sound
to work by shutting off everything but explorer, before we added the
memory.

Try Installing and running the game through DOS
