nascar modem woes, help please!!!

by rick carte » Sun, 03 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I hope some one can offer some advice.  I'm trying to get nascar racing
running over the modem between a 486DX2 33 with a ViVa 14.4 modem and a
Micron mellenia P133 with a Prometheous ***phone 28.8 modem.  The
P133 is running Windows 95. I think I have  a good init string for both
modems, but would be open to sugggestions if anyone has a proven
successful init string for either. Both are internal.

I had trouble getting Nascar able to communicate with the modem under
win95, the only way the modem is available is if run in a windos
seesion . If I reboot to dos, the modem becomes unavailable, the
program will not initialize modem.  Why?

Ok, so we get a connection running in a win-dos session, (on the win 95
p133 machine, my lowly little 486 33mhz runs under nice reliable
dos)and the joystick on the P133 systems acts as if it is no longer
calibrated.  this sanme thing happens whether the p133 is the caller or
answerer. no difference.  Then after about thirty seconds, we lose
connection.

Both machines are running version 1.21 of nascar

Please help, I've been battling this for a week and am really getting
frustrated

thanks
rick

Sorry about the problems running NASCAR from Windows; the joystick problems
seem to be caused by timing change in emulation of the port addresses for
both serial port and joystick port.  If you shut down from WIN95 to DOS
exclusive mode, you shouldn't have any problems running NASCAR with modem,
though it sounds like you may have a configuration problem of some sort
related to either the modem's comm port or WIN95.

You might try running MSD on the WIN95 system after restarting in DOS and
see if the comm port shows up at the correct port address.  I haven't seen
any problem of this sort, though I've only had experience with a few WIN95
setups to date.  If you can't figure it out, send me email, and I'll try to
help.
