You may have some luck using the Rendition Beta 5
reference drivers.  We were able to keep it from crashing
with these drivers, but they still were unable to run the
the graphics to their full potential.

You can find the drivers at;
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

You need to make sure that you have the proper bios
version for your card and thoroughly read the information
about using reference drivers versus the ones your card
manufacturer supplies.  These are "Beta" drivers, so your
mileage may vary.

Since my card is no longer useful can you guys give me some suggestions on a
new card.

First assumption.  Money is no object.  Video card will run N3, and GPL plus
the normal other business apps stuff.  This is the "mother of all video
cards".  Top of the line stuff here.

Second assumption.  Money is a slight option.  Which middle of the road card
will run both N3 and GPL?I'm cheap option.  Can I just keep my current Herc.
Thriller card and live with the lessor graphics in N3 if I don't feel like
spending a boat load of new money on a new card?

Hi all, just wanted to let everyone know, the Hercules Thriller will NOT work
with N3.  I can run N3 in software mode, but when trying to use the D3D option
in N3, the game locks up when I go to the track.  I called Sierra tech support,
and they basically said they knew about this, and that they couldn't help me
with it.

why is it that PAPY fully endorced rendition in ICR2, N2, N99, and GPL, but not
in N3. I bought a card to run PAPY games, and now you abondon us??

That doesn't make much sense.  It's a standard TNT2 board, right?  Or is
that a different type of board?

Are you overclocking it?  If so, what happens if you put it at the factory
defaults?

If it is a  TNT2 board, what about trying reference nVidia drivers?

FWIW...

Ok, never mind.  It's a Rendition board.  Forget my previous reply :)

I know it hurts, but frankly D3D is the future of *** on Pc's, and I'm
glad to finally see Papyrus adopt it.

Now we just need GPL 2.0 :)

If you read the beta report at one of the sites, then you should have
known the thriller wouldn't work with N3.  The Rendition chipset is two
generations behind most others, heck even Matrox has surpassed the
Rendition chips, ATI Rage 128, all of em are faster in D3D.  Time to
***and realize that except for ICR2 and GPL, there is no reason to
own a Rendition based video card anymore.

The Riva GeForce 256 is coming out very soon now, within the next
month.  This card, from reports I've read, is VERY VERY VERY fast.
It's too bad Papy doesnt support OpenGL though... luckily the card
supports DirectX, and I hear DirectX 7 will have special support for
this card.

Check out the Riva TNT 2.  Should word very well... Wish I could get on
(no agp for me on my aging 266)

Voodoo3 3500.  Unless you got a monster p3-600 and then you could look at
the TNT2 Ultra running D3D for N3 and OpenGL beta2 driver for GPL.

Voodoo3 2000 or 3000.

You could also get a Voodoo2 card, but they are running about the same price
as a Voodoo3 card and its performance is about roughly half of that of a
Voodoo3 2000.  But since the Voodoo2 is a 3D card, it means you can run the
Herc as your 2D card and use the Voodoo2 as your 3D card.

Thank you very much. I had even pulled my rendition card, but my onboard
video wasn't much better. I reinstalled my Blitz V2200 with the beta
drivers and now I am running in D3D mode. My frame rate is good and
everything looks great.

I'm still going to get a V3, but at least this will hold me over till I
decide which card and find the best deal.

Thanks again...

Huh? All the latest games work excellent with my 8MB AGP Hercules Thriller
card, so why should I  buy a new videocard for N3? If it was one hell of new
racing game then I would but not for a upgraded N2 ( is all I read, even
from those who like N3)

regards,

Harald

Your going to see more and more "latest" games struggling with the rendition
cards I'm afraid. They really screwed themselves when the shelved the 3300
chip .
