Hi all,
I just installed a Thriller 3-D 8 meg Rendition V-2200 PCI card in my PC.
Here is the pertinent info on my system: Dell XPS-P200s (Pentium 200), 64
meg SD-RAM, 512k cache, 17" Dell monitor. My old video card was a #9
Reality 332, 2 meg with Virge chip. I obviously did not have a rendition
card before, and the Reality didn't do Direct 3-D either, so.... my frame
rates have gone WAY up in several sims!
Nascar2:
I set all graphics to "on" except grass-asphalt which was "off". Crowd was
set to "auto" so that I had a frame rate reference. I am drawing all 39
cars, and hear 3. With the old card, I got the crowd flashing off at 20 fps
at California at the start of a race(green flag waving in turn 4) with my
car behind the pack. With the Thriller, I set grass-asphalt to "on", and
adjusted the crowd auto frame rate to get the same effect as before. I
ended up with the frame rate at 30, and it never did flash!! Remember that
is with grass-asphalt texturing that I didn't run before! I also had tested
at Hickory, and with the same scenario got crowd flashing with the old card
at 17 fps, and the V-2200 at 28 WITH grass-asphalt on! BTW, this is in a
DOS window, running under Window's 95.
SODA:
I didn't change any graphic detail for the Thriller yet. The old 2-D card
was running at about 15 fps, while the V-2200 runs the same scenario at 27!
Flight Sim 98:
This sim used Direct 3-D, which my old card didn't support, so the frame
rates reflect 2-D to 3-D comparison. I used the Lear sitting on the runway
at Meigs, with all scenery on dense, and using my Force Feedback joystick
(it uses some frame rate).
Forward view: old 6.5 new 13.8
Left side: old 7.3 new 19.0
Rear: old 8.6 new 21.0
Right side: old 9.3 new 25.0
So you can see that the Thriller seem to kick ***pretty well in Direct 3-D
also!!
Another surprise was the test results in WinTune '97. My old "video speed"
was 24, and now its 37. This is a 2-D test, and I really don't know what
WinTune does to generate their numbers, but I'm very pleased that my 2-D is
even faster!
Now if only I could get the ICR2 patch to run I'd be a happy guy!
