F1 2002 locking brakes

I've lost the thread which was discussing not being able to lock the brakes
in F1 2002.
Someone in VROC gave me a link last night to a set of revised setup screens.
It looks like the default brake pressure in F1 2002 is 85%. Set it to 100%
and you will be able to lock up brakes over 100 MPH. (You'll need to change
it in all your setups)
The link http://www.racesimcentral.net/'s also a no CD
patch there.
The file also gives you individual brake disk size settings and a 3rd spring
setup option.

I did a bit of experimenting and IMO with the pressure set to 100% the
braking seems very good indeed.
You can now basically floor the brake at high speed (as before) but you will
quickly need to back off to stop the wheels locking and going straight on ;)
At a low downforce track it is much easier to lock the brakes than at one
that requires a lot of wing. I haven't tried it in the wet yet so can't
comment on that.

Quite a detective ;-)

Thanks a lot! I will try it today.

Thanks, Ian.  Between that discovery and the 50% travel/split axis
fix, I'll definitely have to give F1 2002 a go now.

Hope the GTv3 mod is ported over soon. :)

Ok, I tried the advanced setup editor for F12k1 just now and if the
one for F12k2 is similar than I'll be very pleased.  I still think,
even with 100% brake pressure, that the brakes should lock at higher
speeds, but it's not really an issue since it achieved the desired
effect.  As I sort of guessed, I'm stopping in a shorter distance and
locking the brakes less frequently now that I don't have to give the
brake pedal full travel at every turn.  It's pretty nice, they should
add that to the standard setup screens that ship with the game.

I do have one question...what exactly does the brake duct setting
adjust?  Or rather, what does the number it's set to refer to?

I'm not sure at what speed / downforce combination the drivers could lock a
wheel in real F1, I've heard though that the brakes aren't power assisted so
it would take a huge press on the pedals to get them to lock IMO. I agree
that at the standard 85% pressure it didn't feel right but I'm happy with
how they react at 95 to 100%. Is it correct ? I have no idea, but it sure is
fun ;)

Well, from my understanding the larger the number the larger the intake at
the front of the wheel is. The bigger the intake the more cooling the brakes
get but they will slow down the car slightly. I think the effect on speed
may be a bit too much though.

I am told that the game features brake temps but I can't find where that
temp readout is.  For some reason, in the demo, I used to get a brake
failure after about 4 laps every time - must have been something to do with
my setup..

I dont think its possible to see the braketemp. Probably in the patch, along
with
water temp.
If you get brakefailure, just open up the brakeduct. i usually drive with 6
or 7.
Hockenheim is usually pretty hot for me, so i have to use 7 there.
A1-ring doesnt seem to be that *** either engine nor brakes, so i can
use 3-4 radiator, and 5-6 in brakes.
