f1 2002 3d config locks up and in game

by mrlarge » Wed, 20 Nov 2002 00:17:15

I am trying to get f1 2002 to run, but im not having much luck at all.
I have an amd 1400 with an msi ti4600.  Every time i run the 3d setup
benchmark it hangs on loading high textures.  If i dont run the
benchmark and go straight to the game it loads up, but as soon as i
click on drive the pc locks up.  IVe tried the latest drivers from
both nvidia and msi for my graphics card.  Ive also got multi boot and
have tried both win 2000 and XP which still hasnt helped.  If anyone
has any ideas i will be very gratefull.

Thanks in Advance

check your directX version number.  I don't know how it's done in win2k or
XP but there should be some sort of DX control panel. For F1 2k2 I'm pretty
sure you need dx8.1

btw...why dual boot win2k and xp?  Aren't they both based on the same kernal
or code base?

It seems there is a glitch in *some* DirectX installations.
I don't know if this will help or not, but worth a try :

Go into DX Diagnostic Tool, Display tab, & click the middle "Disable" button
for
Direct3D Acceleration...Enabled............................[Disable]
It should still say ...Enabled...if not, do it again, what can it hurt? ;)
.

I have the latest direct x and drivers for the card.  It appears that
the card seems to lock up in all direct x games, but not jedi outcast
which uses opengl.  Changed motherboard, reinstalled xp still got
problem.  Not sure where to turn now.  PS I had dual boot as i had an
older graphics card which certain games would work on xp with the 3rd
party drivers and some on win 2000!

Thanks
