Also, I can run the card at 280/571 in 3DMark2k1 without problems until the
cows come home, but the minute I start F1 2002 up, I get artifacts, lockups,
etc. unless I back the memory timing down. Could it be that F1 2002 strains
the video memory more than 3DMark2k1, or am I just simply placing too much
emphasis on the situation?
What if you first run the setup directly from Start/Programs/EA
Sports/F1 2002/3D Setup.

Have you changed the original directory of your game in the mean time?
Something similar happened to me when I updated my video drivers, when I
launched MODs for F12001, video set-up popped up each time untill I realised
I had to manually change my config.ini ( Lemans's, FIAGT's ALMS's etc...)

Have you tried copying the video config lines from your CONGFIG.INI
to your
CONFIGFIAGTV3.INI? Both files are found in your F1 2001 game folder.
In
CONGFIG.INI copy the lines from the line CPURATING=... down to (and
including) VSYNC=... and paste over the same lines in
CONFIGFIAGTV3.INI. You
have to do this with each INI for each MOD you are running each time
you
upgrade your video drivers and after any time you've re-run the video
config
program. Might help in this situation too.
