Hello,

>Hows the ring practice going.....Close to a sub 9min yet?

I hope he does not get too soon under 9min ;)
No, really I hope he does.

It makes my job in catching him a bit harder, but I'll get him anyway!

Yes. I hope Eldred does not mind, but I too have set him as a target.
Latest I've checked we are in the same second in 6 of the tracks.
I still need to improve at Glen, Silverstone and Zandvoort (this is going to
be a tough one).
And of course at the Ring, but that's another story.

Last nigth I got over 6secs from my previous pb at Spa!
I did not change my setup, but just drove faster :) which I honestly did not
think
was possible, but those replay comparing utilities are just unbelievable!

Cheers.

Ah!  Yet another patron of St. Eldred <g>.  I too hope he gets well below the 9
minute mark at the Ring as this means there is a good chance I can do it as well
(provided I can find the time to practice). Besides the Ring, I still need to
get a few more laps at Monaco, Kyalami, and Spa to close the gap but I am within
+/- 2 seconds at the rest of the tracks. Hmmm....how to convince my wife that I
need to spend a few days of my vacation on the computer because of this Eldred
guy <vbg>

And perhaps it would be better to refer of Eldred as a "benchmark" rather than a
target (sounds less like we are gunning for him).

Keep up the good work Eldred, like it or not you are gathering quite a few
followers.

Hello,

This was the point for me also.
I have a 9:28.xx my current pb, but it includes a major offroad excursion.
If I try not to spin, I end up with 10:0x:xx.
Well its all just lack of practice and remembering the turns.
It just takes time.

Same here. I've managed to negotiate one whole weekend for this purpose :)
(Wife is travelling then and takes our daughter also, so the Track will be
all mine...
The pb:s will be dropping like flies at that time.)

Agreed.

Oops.

Sorry, I totally screwed the quoting in my earlier post.

Sorry again... (goes quietly to the corner to read netiquette.)

But Eldred you still have one card up your sleeve ... or maybe I should say foot on
the floor <g>. Once you get tired of the Ring give that left foot a try.  Maybe
start at one of the short ovals so you have some time to play with the brake while
in a relatively slow speed turn. You'll probably go slower until you get used to it
but when you do it's going to pay off.   I'm amazed you can do those times without
left foot braking.

Oh, and who hasn't hit a wall (or armco or tree or...) at all of the tracks <g>

If that's the case, it's probably time to put it down for a while.  I was
driving REALLY badly a few weeks back so I put my wheel in the closet and
didn't play for two weeks.  When I eventually played again I beat 3 of my
PBs in one night.  Sometimes it helps to give yourself a break and get out
the rut that you're in.  When you start back again, it's easy to see where
you were making mistakes that you didn't notice before.

Cheers,
...Colin

Don't you hate that. I've been focusing on monza lately (trying to get
competitive on vroc and it is a very popular track). I feel so much
better and so much more in control and my PB is where it was 6/8/2000
around when i got my voodoo and started playing this beast again. I
take 3 months off and hit 1:29.97 at monza locking up the wheels and
generally flying all over the place. Three weeks of solid practice
later I hit (last night on fumes) 29.97. ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! but i'll take
it. I do find i am much more consistent. If i concentrate i could
probably run a grand prix without crashing if i keep it in the 31s. I
think setup HAS to have something to do with it. I was looping a 30.01
lap i did against GH's 26.xx replay using spygirl and his car is
practically scraping the ground. Mine looks like a monster truck by
comparison (using default).  Anyway after running that loop I went
back and put together a lap between me and Matt Sentel. That felt
better cuz I actually beat him. I let that one run all night.

Cheers and keep driving. You have the dubious distinction of being an
inspriation to all us slowpokes :-)

PS. If you stop hitting walls you may pick up a little speed :-P

How do you expect to get better when you don't realize how good you
already are :-)

"9:00.60 <sigh>"? Don't you mean <yipee>
I try (impossible) to think about how well i hit one, two or three
particular corners or sequences and then just concentrating on line
for the rest of the lap.  If you concentrate too much on lap time you
end up driving like a banshee at the start and then slowly getting
tentative (which can kill you as you oversteer into a corner cuz you
are used to hitting it 10mph faster) for the rest of the lap to make
good on your successful jump off the flugplatz.

Of course I totally suck (er, I mean I am still learning) so any
advice from me should be absolutely and without reservation ignored.

So, 0.61 seconds away from being sub-9, that's quite a small margin really,
you only need to be 3-4mph faster through a corner to make that up. Chin-up
lad, you're so very close now!

ROTFL!

I hadn't actually thought of using an oval track to practice.  I think I tried
it once, just as an experiment, though.  Kept spinning out...and got fed up.

I've as good as given up trying to catch you now Eldred . You've got too
damn fast lately . Slowpoke my foot. I made a little progress at the Ring
earlier and after trying out a new setup at Rouen , I wiped 4 seconds off my
PB after only 2 laps and I didn't get the best out the car (stating the
obvious). I think I'll have to set my sights on a certain Ken McKay for now
. I need about 10 secs by tonight's ranking.
