GF4 Ti4600 Killer -- Radeon 9700 Benchmarks

Wow, this new Radeon is the video upgrade to end all upgrades.  256% faster
in Q3A at 1600x1200x32 over the Ti4600!

In UT2003 the R300 is 54% faster at 1600x1200x32 Antalus benchmark.  Basing
the score off of Anand's recent benchmarking of the GF4 Ti4600 at that
resolution and settings which was 41.1 fps, the new Radeon's score by my
calculations should be about 63.3 fps.  Anand wasn't allowed to quote fps
numbers for the R300 (only %) since the drivers are still Alpha but he
secretely hinted how you could figure it out!

Yep, the race is on for real now, ATI seems to have stepped up to the
plate, will be interesting to see what nVidia has in the pipeline, good
thing I don't need a new vid card just yet, I can just sit back and wait
for the smoke to clear a bit :-)

If only the Parnhalia had had a bit more poke it would be a 3 way fight :D

That sounds really cool, but just as with racing sims (RL!) I have a limit
for what I'm willing to spend for a graphics card. The 220 Euros I spent for
my G4 4200 is pretty much the max. This thing has a SRP of US$399. Yikes!

Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change
to take effect. Reboot now?

I haven't seen any benchmarks on it yet, but the previews didn't sound
too promising no

Oh well, at least we have 2 serious contenders now, and just as in the
CPU war, this can only be good for the consumer.....especially those of
us who refuses to buy nVidia cards of course :-)

After being stung with CHRONIC drivers for the origional Radeon - I'm still
in refuse-to-buy ATI mode - but this might sway me come November when the
NV30 comes out - and just about matches if for speed yet is 100 more
expensive

Yea, but that price won't stick for too long so just wait a while (6
months) and you can have one too. And the drivers willl be pretty well
bug free by then too.

I guess the R9700 will be lower soon. $300 even maybe.. and there will be a
lower clocked version too, so dont jump the ship yet :)

Wow, I wonder if Nvidia is going to push the Ge5 out faster now.
Without competition, they've been tending to hold off on releasing new
cards, but it looks like ATI is trying to win the performance war.

As an aside, WTF is up with using Quake 3 as a benchmark still?  Cards
that came out 3 years ago could run it at 100fps.

Also, I haven't read the Anand article.  Did he test the FSAA and
Antistropic filtering?

The problem Nivida has is there nv30 will be based on a .13 die and it will
be at least Nov but very possibly January before the yields will be high
enough for them to release the nv30.  It's not something they can just push
out faster.

As Anand said, using Q3A was only just for comparison's sake.

He did and he was impressed but didn't have time to do a thourough
comparison of the picture quality but the Radeon FSAA framerates also blew
away the Ti4600.
