Nascar Legends - Lock-up

Nascar Legends - Lock-up

by RocketMa » Thu, 13 Dec 2001 07:21:13

After installing Nascar Legends I have been unable to run any of the
circuits.
I have installed the full configuration, set up my controls, sound, and
graphics (3dfx) - no problem. When I try to access any track my system locks
up and I have to reboot the system. It doesn't matter whether I click on
'Testing Session' or 'Go to Track'; it locks up both times. Is this a known
problem? Is there a patch that needs to be installed?
I have no problem running GPL, N4, or N3. My system specs are:- DELL PII
450, 384MB RAM, 2 x 14.4 GB HDs, nVidia Geforce2MX (64MB), Voodoo II (12MB),
Windows 98 (not SE), DirectX 8.0a.
Any help would be much appreciated. TIA.

There is one official patch for both N3 and Nascar Legends.  However, I'm
thinking the problem might be your Nvidia card is keeping the V2 from
running in glide.. Try using D3d.  Good luck

  Thanks Dave.
I tried using D3D, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. I assume
adding RASTER_DEVICE 0 to NL.INI changes the graphics card used by the game.
I have also applied the patch (nl_1204.EXE) with no change.

Nascar Legends - Lock-up

That is a truly hybrid machine and I am suprised that NL is the only thing
giving you problems. My main points of concern would be 2 differing types of
video cards, one severely outdated, the other dangling on the edge of being
outdated. Also the PII 450 is also rock bottom processing power (not that NL
requires a ton of power), but I think that and the fact that you have
dueling video cards and non SE Win98 (Win98SE is the current best *** OS
until XP is completely tweaked out) are just adding up to too much for some
games to work through.

My suggestion that wouldn't cost you any money would be to yank the really
old voodoo card and just use the GF. An MX GF card with more RAM will out
perform that old 16MB card in most any application.
