T2 and N2 Question?

by Clay Zahrobsk » Tue, 17 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Do I really need a separate game port as the T2 directions call for or
is the game port on my soundcard good enough?

TIA,

Clay

If you have a Good card such as the Soundblaster and it is a newer
model, then you will be OK.  A lot of the cheaper compatible cards
are good enough to handle the speed at which a faster pentium system
polls the port.  I use a SB 16 with the T2 and it works fine.

I use my SoundBlaster32 game port.
Works great for me. Try your soundcard game port
before spending money on a dedicated game card.

The game port on your soundcard should work.  The only reason to upgrade
to a dedicated game port is that they tend to be of better quality and
hold their 'calibratin' better.  Also with extremely fast machines or
bus speeds a game card which you can manually set the speed for is
better than the game port on a soundcard.

Ditto.  SB16 and T2 with no problems.  The documentation from
Thrustmaster does make you wonder how good the ACM card is.  Does
anyone have any experience going from a good sound card to the ACM (or
other game card) ???  Did it make a difference?

The ACM is speed-adjustable, which means it can be made to work for some
games where the joystick reading code "wraps around." I don't have one,
because my machine at home didn't need one. A buddy of mine has one,
because on his machine, some games would wrap around waiting for the
joystick read. If you have a decent sound card, *and* your games work
reliably, you probably don't need the ACM.
