N2003 Player/AI Damage (Engine) and And breakdowns?

Hi All,
I remember thinking how realistic GPL could be when flying past an engine
damaged AI car driving slowly back to the pits off the driving line for
repairs or to retire (Used to be regular at Monza for some reason). Also you
would have the Player and AI cars catch fire etc, with real looking flames
and smoke piling out of the rear of the cars. The wheels could also actually
come off in a particular *** accident. I see no evidence of this at all
with N2003! Even driving the cup cars with damage set to realistic, I only
ever see bodywork damadge in a crash (which is very good), but no lost
wheels, no flames/fire and perhaps worse of all, no AI struggling slowly on
their way back to the pits! Am I missing something here, or did papy decide
not to include this level of realism in N2003? I must admit though that I
have only been running very short races etc so far while I test out all the
new tracks/mods/utils/cars etc. I am talking no more than 5-6 laps per race
so far. Will longer races/practise sessions include these things I have
mentioned? I don't really see how they can though as I was on a trck last
night and kept the car in first gear at full revs for ages and not only the
enging didn't blow for ages, when it did the spotter simply informed me
"You've blown the engine" and the engine stops with no GFX effects at
all???? Hope I am missing something here? Thanks for any answers.

Andrew.

About all you'll get for blowing up your engine is some black smoke, and
crud on the windshield. As for the tires and flames I heard that was left
off because NASCAR didn't want to look bad.  Don't you just love this PC
word we live in?

Tires came off in previous versions of the game-perhaps they
are modeling the tire tethers?

I have seen the AI limping back to the pits with their hoods
all crumpled, but yeah if you are evil and drive backwards on
the track, headon into the lead pack at a combined speed
of 400 miles an hour, that car should be shredded into a
million pieces, but all you get in the game is some crumpled
bodywork and maybe some smoke if your engine is damaged
(but still runs)...

IIRC they stopped doing it with N4.  Some people had been killed by tires
flying into the stands at a pointy car race. NASCAR didn't want tires flying
off or flames for public image reasons. I'm not sure when the hood and tire
tethers were mandated, but I think it was actually after the game was
released.  I remember this being a big deal when N4 was released.
