Need new video card!!

by Aaron Markham *Kart44 » Thu, 02 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Guys,
I currently own a 12MB Voodoo2 card and was thinking of upgrading it

for better *** performance on my PII 400 with 192MB RAM. Do you think

I should go with an Asus V6800 32MB SGRAM GeForce DDR or wait for the
new Voodoo's?? I currently play N3, NLegends, GP500, SBK2000, TOCA2, and

DTR. I plan on getting GP3, F12000, WSC, DTR2, and Soldier of Fortune
later
on. Also, will the Asus V6800 increase my framerates over the Voodoo2??
Please help!!
Thanks,

yes the new card is faster than the V2's.  Almost all of these titles
should work very well with your choice.  I'm not 100% sure about toca,
but I think it doesn't have problems with geforces.  All the others
should also play well.  I think the first set of tests I saw for the
geforce ddr was somewhat disapointing until you run at very high rez and
very high color and detail.  then it starts to separate from the other
"normal" sdram geforces.  A lot depends on the drivers and I am
unfamiliar with Asus' driver support.
  Sounds like a good choice

Hmmm, you're not upgrading the V2, since it's an add-on card. You're
upgrading your primary videocard. And since you don't mention what
card that is, I can't tell you the difference.

Anyhow, I wouldn't buy a GeForce right now in your place. It is a very
good card, but current games don't use the nice features of it, like
T&L. Wait for the new 3dFX cards, wait for the new games, watch this
group for the reviews, and then decide what's best for you. Prices
will be lower aswell, and you probably want to upgrade your CPU once
those new games are released.
