Hi all,

in june Sammy posted the following message.
Now I've got the same problems. Anybody has an idea what's going on?

Yes!!!! (No .. I don't know a cure ..I'm just relieved that I'm not

The problem comes up also while playing GPL, so it doesn't seem related
to the gmae being played.

So ... what are your specs?
Here : P2-333 (Tyan Pro Thunder 100 Mainboard), 384 MB Ram, V3-3000.
Logitech drivers : 3.20. The wheel is connected to the USB port. Running
Windows98.

I also own a Wingman Force joystick, which doesn't seem to have any
problems at all.

... oh and to this day, Logitech didn't contact me back:(

Sammy

Sammy,

in calibration screen the limits stuck to 11 and about 600, nervously
shaking - normal is 1 to 654
It only happenes to the accelerator, not to the brake.

My system:

Asus P2B MB
Voodoo 3 2000
SBlive
128 MB ram
USB connected
Logi drivers 3.20 - not yet updated to this mystery 3.25

Actually I don't have problems in the moment, but earlier it happened
every 30 minutes.

I have no idea, what I changed.

I am having the same problem since a week or two ... maybe its a dirty
potentiometer? Or an aging problem?
This idea of self-calabration is ok, but I wish you could disabled it
after you did, because I think the accelerator-potentiontiometer has a
very low or very high resistence for a very short moment which leeds to
an automatic recalibration ...
btw: does this self-calibration happen in the wheel itself? i.e. can it
be disabled with a revised driver?

hmmm ... I don't suppose it has anything to do with the soundcard, or more
people would have this problem. I recently changed my grafic card against a
TNT2 Ultra, but didn't use the wheel so far, still, as with the soundcard,
it is rather unlikely that its relevant.

Maybe some USB issue? I'm rather unknowing when it comes to electronics, but
it sounds like some components in the wheel slowly loads itself up, until
only a part of the signal get through, and only gets decharged when the
power is deconnected.

I tried the 3.25 drivers, but it didn't help.

The delay between failures isn't constant, at least for me. :(

Are there any Logitech people reading this?

tschuess,
Sammy

Hmm...my wheel is like 3 month old? I sincerely hope its NOT an aging
problem:)

I'm currently using another computer, so I can't check, but as far as I
remember, there is a checkbox in the settings to disable the Wheel self
calibration.

What I think is strange, is that JS, you and me all live in Germany.
Perhaps it's only a problem with wheels delivered here. (no ... I'm not
talking about a *** ... ;)

me too ... but my wheel is already 7 months old - I bought the first one
available here in bielefeld/germany around christmas ;-)

this was more a question for some logitech-developer if the electonic
inside the wheel does the work - the self-calibration thing is just the
force-feedback-thing that turns your wheel to its extends at bootup ...

I hope they are not getting sick on their long way to germany ;-)

surely no poti prob.
If you pull the USB and replug, everything is OK again.
Self-calibration can be switched off in Wingman setup
"auto-calibration" or so.

Logitech wheel looses calibration

by Liutger Franze » Fri, 06 Aug 1999 04:00:00

that may not be correct ... I think that the calibration takes place in
the electronics inside the wheel itself, because what comes over the
USB-cable MUST be digital. so there are two possibilities: the wheel
digitizes the potentiometers and transmits either the absolute or the
relative i.e. calibrated values. I think it is the latter one, since the
problem disappears when you pull the power-plug at the wheel ... if this
is the case, then we have got a problem ... try to download and install
a new wheel-software ;-)

another point: why is it the accelerator? both potis should be the same
and the mechanism to digitize them also. maybe it is because this pedal
is normally all its way down, whereas the brake is only pushed from time
to time, but its 'normal' position is all the way up ...

Aehm,

Do I have such a german accent in my writing?
Holy s..t, I thought that was over :-)

Actually I'm german, but live in Malaysia, where I also bought the
wheel.

So, nothing with this theory.

I'm very sure, it's a software problem.

Jens Schumacher from Malaysia

BTW: My wheel is about 4 month old
BTW2: There IS a checkbox for switching on/off self-centering.
