Logitech FF wheel - Calibration gets messed up

by J » Sun, 29 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,

Since quite a while my logi messes up its accelerator calibration.
Happenes quite randomly and can be cured by un- and replugging the
USB-plug (wheel reset).
After I had to jump behind my PC twice during an online race to do
this procedure I had enough.
I found out, that you can have the same reset by unplugging the plug
at the wheel. (Smaller effort, but still inconvenient)

Then I totally reinstalled windows and all my software.

No success.

Then I opened the pedals, since I suspected glitches, which confuses
the Logi-driver.

I exchanged the potis (throttle against brake), since I didn't have
any new on stock.

SINCE THEN NO MORE PROBLEMS.

Hope this helps

Jens

BTW: Please post, if you have the same probs. I wanna know, whether
I'm the only one.

I have read about guys in other forums with the same problem, but no one had
any good answers. It's a good tip you have there.

Autocalibration is not good if one of the pots starts to get bad, because a
casual max reading will be stored a new calibration value.

Autocalibration is already switched of due to 3 reasons:
1. I'm scared about my wheel
2. I don't use the wheel every time I start the PC :-(
3. My wife (when using my PC) is always scared to death when something
starts rumbling under the table

See you
Jens

exchanging the pots works - no doubt about that ...

as I already suspected in this newsgroup some weeks ago, the problem is
the following: inside the wheel is some microcontroller with a firmware.
this baby actually does the digitizing AND (and this is the bad news)
the calibration. the checkbox marked 'autocalibration' just refers to
the turn-left-turn-right thing of the wheel at windows startup - after
that the wheel is calibrated. but it seems that the calibration inside
the wheel can't be disabled. therefore if the potentiometers do an
overshot, i.e. get a max or min value due to contact problems, the
calibration messes up. I have written to the wingmanteam about this
problem, but I did not get any reply yet. as long as there is no
firmware update, we'll have to clean and change our accelerator-pots, I
presume :-(

until next time in about half a year ...

you are not. me and a friend of mine have the same problem.
