F1 2000 fps - aaarghh !!!

by Karsten Borcher » Tue, 21 Mar 2000 04:00:00

First for the record : I intend to buy this game when it hits the stores,
despite being pissed on the 3D, cause I'm a major F1 fan and I must have all
descent F1 games. Just wanted to see this long waited race sim prior to the
release, and think's of it to be a big demo.

But I'm pissed !!!!!! That 3D engine sucks. I cannot get a descent framerate
in the race, even when I have turned almost everything to low detail, and
off in 800x600. In testing, and when alone on the circuit everything is
peachy. But as soon I'm on the grid, the fps drops like mad. It's gets a bit
better as the race progress, but still way under 24fps. To get at smooth
fps, I have to run the game very ugly, and who wants that when every other
game looks and runs fine ???
Used Fraps to get a fps. I got some 12fps on the grid on Monza with 10
visible cars, and a maximum of 17fps during the race. Now that is not good
enough !!

Is it just me, or are you having the same problems ????

And why the hell did'nt the include Transform and Lighting support ??? Not
only beacuse I'm a Geforce owner, but because every major graphiccard
developer (3Dfx, Matrox, Nvidia), will have and have T&L support.
The game just screams for it. Let the GPU handle the graphics, it's what
it's there for, and the CPU can concerate on the AI and physics etc.
By the way, is T&L only a OpenGL feature, or does it support D3D as well ?
(If not, forget what I sad about T&L :)

It's not because my system (PII 450Mhz, Asus V6800 DDR, 128Mb) isn't
configuret correclty, cause all my games run smooth.

Just hope that though claimed to be the final release, that it isn't. And
that the purchased version will have a much better 3D engine

Is it difficult to include T&L in a furure patch ?? Or must it be part of
the programming from scratch ??

Ohh - Forgot about the damage model. Now that rules !!!!
When you break your front suspension, and you pit, they will replace the
tyres etc.
But the damaged suspension isn't fixed, so you join the track with a very
wobbely front wheel - Cool :)
But I cant blow up my engine. Just drove 5 laps on Interlagos in first gear,
full throttle. Nothing :(
The "Breakdown" option is set on normal.

It's a RIP from the release version probably. So don't expect the official
release version to be a lot better in terms of FPS.

Set it to 800x600, turn off mirrors and set the drawing distance
down a little.

Shawn, I just read every single post on High Gear's F1-2000 forum for
the last 6 days and there is no mention of adjusting the field size.
Could you take a moment and tell us where you got this info?

If not, I am going to assume that you are incorrect.

Thanks.

Well, the mirrors, cost you about 40-50% of your framerate, even
if you set their detail to low.. ;)

Go to http://www.fraps.com and download the FRAPS program.
It is very small. Run it prior to starting F1-2000 and it will
show you what your framerate is at all times.

F1 2000 fps - aaarghh !!!

by Andrew » Tue, 21 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Want to improve fps? You can by reducing the number of AI drivers.
Go to save directory, then to player's name directory (presumably, your
name), open the .plr file with notepad, scroll down to game
options section where it says QR_opponents, change the number to the number
of AI's you want. Save and start the game. Now, you
can have a quick race with that number of AI drivers. You can do the same
for GP (grand prix) opponents or CH (championship) opponents.
Enjoy

With SCGT I could put the rearview mirror on in multiplay without a problem, but used a
button for a quick "look behind" in career mode (mirror off).   Maybe F1-2000 has this "look
behind" feature?

Jason.

It's in the topic called "Want to improve FPS by reducing AI?"

Here's what it says.Want to improve fps? You can by reducing the
number of AI drivers.Go to save directory, then to player's name
directory (presumably, your name), open the .plr file with notepad,
scroll down to gameoptions section where it says QR_opponents, change
the number to the number of AI's you want. Save and start the game.
Now, you can have a quick race with that number of AI drivers. You can
do the same for GP (grand prix) opponents or CH (championship)
opponents.

It actually works quite well.  Just ran a 10% quick race at Spain with
5 AI.  Started at the back of the grid, and the frame rate was a heck
of a lot better than with a full field!  It doesn't seem to work on
GP, though.  I changed the file to 5 in GP, but when I went into the
game it changed it back to 21.

i was reading on the F12000 board at high gear that the Myth version my not
actually be the release version. Personally that makes sense ... however you
can take the word of the Warez crowd if you like.

also if you are having fps problems in the quick race and grandprix et al
you can reduce the amount of cars in the race by editing a text file. Sorry
i didnt bother getting the details yet ... but the post is again on the High
Gear forum

Hope this helps ... i'm still looking forward to this one

just remember tHeY ooN Joo

F1 2000 fps - aaarghh !!!

Well, even pirates make errors sometimes, sometimes a beta version is
released as a final version. Just as it was the case with the Class
version of F1 2000. But I'm sure this is the final version, since the
game officially has gone gold now.

Andre
