Here is HOW to get SMOOTH FPS in F1 2000

Just like the rest of you I was very disappointed with the dismal FPS
in F12k.
So, being that I practically tore apart SCGT I figured since F1 2k was
made by the same developers I would give it a look see.

Now I have seen a suggestion on here to lower than number of cars.
Yes, that does work, but to me have the point of racing is having
other cars to race against.

But by changing one setting in F12K I can now race at 1024x768, 22
cars, all options except environmental mapping maxed with smooth
framerates.

First let me show you my system specs.

P2 466 Celeron O/C to 525 at 75hz
128 meg RAM - 8 nanosecond SDRAM
WD 6.5 Gig HD
Creative Blaster TNT2 Ultra with 3.77 drivers
Directx 7a
NASCAR Super Sport Wheel (no Force Feedback)

Now, after you have created a player a folder is created in your SAVE
directory using the name of the driver you created.
Say you created a driver named Joe Bob.
Look under SAVE/JOE BOB
Now under the player name folder open the *.PLR file with a TEXT
editor (notepad will work fine)

Scroll down until you see the following:

MIPMap=0

Change that sucker to read:

MIPMap=1

Start the game, go to graphic options and max everything except for
environmental mapping.
Take a test race.

if you notice some stutter slowly reduce graphic options until you get
smooth FPS

Big difference huh?

Wonder why ISI left the Mipmap option out of the in-game screens?

Can't test it now, I'm at work, but I'm going to try this as soon as I
get home. Hope it also works for me, thanks for the tip!
What is mipmap by the way?

Good luck. It didn't work for me. Made the game uglier, but not appreciably
faster.

I think you have to have a D3D card like TNT2 or Geforce for the
mipmapping to have great effect (shrugs?)

Mipmapping should make the game run a bit faster (if done by hardware, check
your card's driver settings), but it sure looks awful, at least on my Elsa
TNT2. I keep trying to run SCGT with mipmapping on, but have to turn it off
after playing a few minutes... don't know if the ugliness is due to hardware,
drivers or game's 3d engine.

BTW, has anyone tried to convert tracks/cars between SCGT and F12000 yet - file
formats seem to be close enough ;)
