im sure this one is a no brainer... but id like to get peoples opinion
on which is the better of the two games???

Monaco GP racing sim 2   or F1 racing sim... both by ubi-soft...
with MGPrs2 being the newest but without the licensed vehicles as seen
in F1rs  ???

i know im buying GPL for sure...   seems to be the defacto standard in
open wheel racing to date...   as soon as i buy that new motherboard
ill be ready to race....

funny how the retro game is kickin the modern games ass !

No competition, MGPRS2 is superior to F1RS in every way.  MGPRS2 can be
updated to 1999 performance,***pits, names, sounds, etc etc at
www.mgprs2.com.

Kyle,

Once you've started GPL you won't use MGPRS2 anymore. Especially with FF
there's no competition!

MGPRS2 looks nice though!

Agreed. I started with GP2. Then I went to F1RS. I felt the spins were
'less canned' than GP2. GP2 felt like it drove completely on rails (I
know some GP2 *** fans will disagree with me here).

I then got MGPRS2 and GPL at then same time. Having only played the
GPL demo up until that point, I assumed that I'd play both evenly.
ROFL. No chance. I actually thought that the first release of MGPRS
had worse handling in it. It seemed that they had made it easier to
spin, but also easire to catch it in an attempt to make it more 'tail
out arcade-ish'. From what I understand, this was corrected in later
patches, but I don't care, cos GPL is FAR superior. For anything to be
better, it's got to use a physics modal that is at least of the same
complexityas GPL's.
Thats why I have this worrying feeling about what GP3 will turn out
like.

Is that true about the physics or MGPRS2?  I downloaded the demo and I
didn't like it at all.  In the demo, all assistance/help is turned on
and the damn thing still slides the back end out.  It doesn't even seem
connected to what's going on in the race, the back end just slides
around.  For that reason (and that reason alone), I prefer the original
F1 Racing Simulation.

But everyone is right about GPL.  That game is an almost perfect
simulator.  I've never had so much fun simply driving (uncompetitively)
around a track as I do in that game.  I don't care if I win, I don't
get frustrated, I simply enjoy myself.  It's also fun from a historical
perspective.  I've bought a few books on the history of Grand Prix
racing and I watch the occaisonal Legends of Motorsports on
Speedvision.  All of that is due to GPL.  It's sad to think that in a
few years this game will be dated and there's no sequel to look forward
to.

I couldn't tell you for sure. But I agree with you that it felt like
it did.
I've never played MGPRS2 since (apart from once on a mates machine to
check the FF).
Now, he reckons the latest patch made it like F1RS again, he also
drove F1RS as well.
So the fix is 'word of mouth'.

Also, with regards to FF. GPL thashes it. However, I'd like to say the
FF is still overrated in GPL. Mind you, it still kicks arse anyways.
Plus I still need to tweak my settings. Only just got the LWFF.

GPL has got me really interested in the old stuff. I would never even
contemplate going to something like Coys or Goodwood before.

MGPrs2 Vs. F1rs

Don't know how many times we have to have this discussion! GPL and MGPRS are
VERY different sims. They cannot really be compared. Both have their place,
and as it stands (at the moment) MGPRS is the best MODERN F1 sim around.
In respect to the comments about the back end in MGPRS, the way the car is
setup and the effect that different parameters have is very different in
MGPRS cf. F1RS. MGPRS is much more realistic in this sense - it's all a
question of control and patience!

It's your opinion, only that.

I personally feel that Grand Prix 2 by Microsprose is a superior modern
racing sim in many aspects compared to MGPRS2, and even if MGPRS2 has some
superior aspects to GP2 my _opinion_ , still based on many facts, GP2 is
superior to MGPRS2.

you need to disable steering assist
and a host of other assist............

it is in the options somewhere
playaround there and like me
once you discovered them, GP2 is out and out
a classsic.

it is truly an excellent game,
well balanced in all departments
of course can still be improved
especially the AI
Which I hate when I get rammed from behind
while leading the race....
I think Shumi learnt his driving from these AI !!
