That's what these NGs are all about - opinions!

Are you kidding? Force feedback!
In a lot of ways, yes!

If you like driving in a cartoon, MGPRS is the game for you.
If you like the subdued real world colours of GPL, the answer is no.

Force Feedback: You'll need the patch (GPL1.1 or the new 1.2, to be released
soon) and a FF-Wheel.  I myself have a Logitech Wheel (LWFF) and really love
it (it's generally believed its the best for GPL (most sensitive) except for
the pedals(can be replaced with better ones eventually)). One advice: If you
buy GPL do buy a FF-device too than you're really racing!

Depends on what you expect: Some people think MGP is too colourfull (I myself
don't think so, it's really nice). GPL lookt totally different, the colours
are a bit more 'realistic' in this way they really give you the feeling you're
driving in the sixties. At first I had to get used to the environment because
you're really warped back in time: colours and scenery (e.g. the old fashioned
billboards).
The tracks themselves are marvellous: you really have the feeling you're there
(and virtually feel the bumps). They are all different in pavement too: parts
of the Rouen track look like a freeway others like a B-road. Someone in this
thread mentioned that the two simulators are two total different worlds and
shouldn't be compared, I disagree with that. You can make a comparison on
quality: both are racing sims but with GPL you really "feel" the sensation of
racing. I'm not competitive at all (can't even beat the AI) but have a great
time racing around the tracks and find it really sensational to race online.

There's one drawback on GPL however: You get ***ed.

LOL. I kinda guessed I'd get a few die-hard fans replying to this
posting :)

As I've mentioned in another reply, I did eventually reach the point
when I had ALL the help options turned off. To me, at least, it still
felt like driving on rails.

OK, in comparison to GPL, this is a fair assumption, because of the
difference in nature between the eras (no aero downforce vs loads of
it).

However, it 'felt' to much.

Having said all this, GP2 was (and still is in a way) a classic, no
disagrement there. I felt F1RS had a better, more accurate model (as
suggested also by Nick Heidfeld, Jean Alesi and HHF somewhere...)

[Mind you, GP2 had a MUCH nicer user interface, cool intro tune, and
in general better layout. The default telemetry tool was much better
than the F1RS one. Only when someone else wrote their own telemetry
tool could any useful setup work be done in F1RS. What is it about
French computer products and 'weird' interfaces]

He he. Things haven't really got THAT much better. I've been taken out
a few times in GPL that way.

Mind you, who said that human players are any better at not doing this
;)

That is allot of bull.  I for one with allot of people do not like Gpl.  We
want modern sims.

Mick,

I can see your point that you don't like the era ('67) of GPL (and the cars
belonging to this era) but being objective and comparing the simulator engines
(i.o.w. the modelling) there's no competition! GPL is absolutely better! One
might even be afraid there won't be a real successor for a long time because
of the fact that GPL wasn't a big commercial success (meaning they won't put a
lot of effort in developing a sequel or even modern F1 sim based on the
GPL-physics modelling).

For true sim and physics you are correct.  Nothing compares to it.  I just enjoy
modern F1 sims.  Gp3  should be better if not equal to Gpl when it comes out.
Can't wait.
