F1RS/MGPRS2 + Rendition = ???

F1RS/MGPRS2 + Rendition = ???

by Jeff Vince » Fri, 29 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I saw F1RS in the bargain bin ($10) at the local EB a few days back
and was considering purchasing it.  I have a PC with a Hercules
Thriller 3D 8meg card (Rendition V2200), as well as a V1000 on my old
PC.  I have Win95 SR1 and DirectX5 installed.

There were two subtly different boxes, one did not say if it
supported Rendition cards (while listing other D3D cards supported),
the other explicitly said that it *did not support* Rendition cards.

So, is it possible to use F1RS on my V2200 in D3D?  Perhaps a patch
released after these boxes were printed?

Also, since MGPRS2 is a close sibling, would that work with my
V2200?

Thanks for any info you can provide.  (BTW, I know I can buy a
cheap Voodoo card, and I may even do that, but I want to know if these
sims will run on the Rendition.)

I've got both games, a v1000 screamin' 3d card and neither of the games
works. I posted a "Please Help" message on this group and got a response
from a ubisoft techie who said "Rendition, forget it" (paraphrase)

Correct. You need a 3dfx card.

What does he mean by forget it? I'm running a Thriller and F1RS works fine
(except for that error message that I get when I close out the game).

Sure, with a 3DFX card it would look better ... but I decided to optimize
things for GPL (God knows why).

I've got a 3dfx card. I'm running a Diamond Monster II along with the
rendition card.

Well then you will have no problem getting the game going in Glide.
You may need to put Glide.dll and sst1init.dll in your \windows\system
directory. Then re-install the game. Unfortunately the setup program
looks for these 2 files (which were from Glide V1.x). Anyway while
in the setup program click the info button and you should see that
Glide is available. Since you have a 3dfx card forget using the
rendition with this game. You *SHOULD* have no problems.
