Voodoo 2 driver lockups in GPL back again

by Stuart Nicholso » Sun, 11 Apr 1999 04:00:00

After watching the REAL cars racing for REAL around Adelaide today with none
other than the legendary Sir Jack Brabham racing it was an awesome sight. I
only wish I had been trackside. If it's on again next year I will be there
fore sure. The Ferrari with all it's white spaghetti pipes and a Lotus in
the Red and Gold Leaf colours brought a lump to the throat. It beat the
Lotus on the line by 0.01 of a second. Made the modern stuff look as boring
as all hell. Anyway I digress. Got all e***d and re installed GPL and got
the dreaded cursor with crashed square around it and constant lockups. I
remember when I did this before I solved it by going back to Creative's own
drivers and not using the latest (at the time) reference drivers. Well it's
some time since then and I'm using the very latest Creative drivers and the
problem is back. Can anyone advise a. the best drivers to use and b. where I
could DL them. I have got it going by loading without 3DFX as default,
setting everything up and then reloading with 3DFX but it's a tad flaky as
if you go back to the front screens then try to get back to racing it locks
up again. Any help would be appreciated. I'd forgotten how awesome this sim
is. It's head and shoulders above anything else.

Stuart

PS I see some familiar faces (names anyway) from the (whispers) Compuserve
Racing Sim Forum days. Hi to you all. Seems old sim racers never die they
just get on to the Net.

go to  http://www.racesimcentral.net/;  there you will find
Glide2x.dll v 2.53 download and put it in your gpl directory.
Gpl will then use the v 2.53 glide dll and not the the 2.54 dll which comes
with new drivers.  gpl has a problem using the new 2.54 dll.

Hope that helps.
