N4 Patch..the AI much improved

by ThreeWid » Fri, 27 Apr 2001 12:28:48

Just as a quick test, I ran a short race at Dega tonite after the patch.

Wow what a difference IMO.  Racing against the AI used to be pointless, but
now they actually behave.  Before, you could not pass on the inside in a
corner without getting taken out.  Now you can pass them just about anywhere
cleanly.  They draft pretty well, but tend to jumble things up on the
backstretch.  We went 3 wide on a number of occasions without incident.
It's not perfect, but I really had fun in my first race with them.

I also ran a quick one at Daytona, where the cars kept the draft going on
both inside and outside grooves.  I thought that was also cool because these
days the cup guys stay at least two wide the entire time.  Before the patch,
the AI would take you out more than anything.

So far, I am very pleased with the patch.

Well you can pass them now cause they totally give too much room. they will
flat out do almost anything to em now. :( You can flat out*** em . :( :(

I guess I must be racing a different version than you were because I never
had any problems with the AI on the superspeedways. I've run numerous
%20-%50 races with them and as long as I raced carefully and had some
patience, I never had a problem. Now I've patched the game so we'll have to
see what's different.

You -could- race with the AI, but you had to be extremely carefull, if
you passed an AI car on the inside they would recklessly push you off
the road, just like a newbie online driver would do (or the average N4
online driver for that matter :)
I haven't had a chance to test the patch (I'm at work now :( but what
I read so far is very promising. Can't wait to get home!!

Well, so far I've raced twice with the patch.  First time at Martinsville,
43 cars, the pace car came out with about 40 laps left and plowed through
one of the cars.  The car went airborne, landed on the pace car, and got
"stuck" into the pace car.  I had to finish the last 40 laps under yellow
because the stuck car kept it from ever going green.  Not sure if this is a
patch issue or just a freak happening.  Next race at 'dega I did experience
a *** rear ending under yellow.  I was in a long single file line with 1
car behind me when another car rearended the car behind me at a high rate of
speed causing the car behind me to slam into me wiping me out. :(

One good thing is the advantage of railriding is now gone since you will
lose speed big time if you try it.

I'd say it's pretty freaky :)

I've got a pretty cool screen shot of it.  It was stuck in a vertical
configuration!

I am wondering if Papy is just testing AI for a new CART sim.  Was the guy
who rear ended you an old CART driver?
