GPL Converted Tracks - Any chance of improved AI sometime?

by Chris Bloo » Fri, 31 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Let me start by pointing out that I am not moaning about Dave
Noonans converter.  I am really enjoying having more than twice
as many tracks available to me thanks to his efforts and I have
no problem about paying for this pleasure.

As I have mentioned before many times in RAS, I am down at the
sharp end of Africa which makes on-line racing virtualy
impossible.  A good AI is essential for me to enjoy a sim.

I am just wondering if ave Noonan is going to try and sort out
the most glaringly obvious bugs in the AI at his converted
tracks.

I can understand Cleveland could be a bit diffucult due to it's
layout and I know it was a bit tame when converted to NR99.  The
most off putting AI bugs to me are; the last and first corners
at Mid-Ohio where the AI slow down suddenly before the
start/finish straight and cut the grass in turn one, first
corner at sears point where the AI seem to find the wall far too
often.  Mesa and Fontana also seem to have problems with the AI
heading for the wall too often though they are not as off-
putting as the road circuit bugs.

I feel as we have paid for this converter we should be entitled
to improvements to sort out blatant problems.

GPL Converted Tracks - Any chance of improved AI sometime?

I'm now a little bummed.  I didn't know that there were AI problems.  I've
ordered (and received) the converter and am only waiting for my copy of CART
to arrive from Sierra.  It would be nice if the rest of us could pitch in and
assist Mr. Noonan.  I'm sure he'd be more than happy to have some help.  Not
with the converter itself but maybe with AI patches?  On the other hand, I
enjoy attacking the tracks all by my lonesome so it might not be much of an
issue for me.
