Anyone get the NoCD patch to work on a patched (1.1.00) N4
in W2K?
I keep getting  NascarRacing 4.exe  not a valid Win32
application.
Any help?

Test what , the no CD patch in 98 ? Or did you lose your
direction on your way to........ alt.test,  the newsgroup
specifically to test posting so as not to waste others
time being off topic.

Thanks, tried them all I think it is a W2K issue although
I was using the original nocd patch
prior to installing the Papy 1.1.00 patch

  As a gamer, I avoid OS's that aren't geared for a gamer.
So Apple, OS2, Win2k...not my cup of tea.  Sure they all can be forced to
work, most of the time, but that is almost like making an
emulator...fwiw...my old Amiga 500 could run IBM and Apple proggies...but
they ran so dad-blasted-slow...who really wanted to?
I know the MS blueprint calls for phasing out win98, but that's another
windmill I'll fight for some time.  I don't trust the new XP copy protection
scheme...blatant theft if you ask me...and win2k has tons of niggling little
compatibility issues.  If you are commited to win2k, I'd suggest a dual boot
with win98 so that you can continue to game.

I don't have N4, but I do use Win2K.

If you have Service Pack 2 installed, there's a new feature called
"compatibility mode" that can fool a program into thinking it's on Win9x. make
a shortcut to N4 on your desktop if you don't have one already, right click on
it, go to Properties. In the window that comes up, there will be a tab named
"Compatibility". Select Win98 from the list of OSs there. Good luck!

Dave or anyone: What makes Win2k and WinME such a pain in the
azz for gamers? Remember dont get too technical as I'm not any PC
Guru!! Tia.. Thom_j.
Btw: Dave whats "niggling little compatibility issues"? query more on

All my programs and games run great inW2K even smoother
the 98, ( The W2K not for games rhetoric is tired and  has
been beaten to death  its a matter of personal opinion)
but the question is about the nocd patch not working. I
will not install another OS to run a nocd patch thats
ridiculous. Dave, FWIW going well over a year with W2K
steady no reboots

  I keep hearing how stable win2k is...so...???  Win98 is stable...at least
for me...
now win2k will run just about everything, but that wasn't always the case
and it still takes steps like a service pak to ensure compatiblity...and
then still more steps to enable everything.  Seems like folks are golfing
with a rake.
I'm dissing Win2k, if it works for you then great...but the last year has
seen a continueing thread of how to get certain games running under win2k.
Or even more popular, 'it works great on my win98 boot but not win2k..' To
those who ALREADY have a dual boot setup.. I reply,",,then just LEAVE win98
alone."
Sorry if I came across as crass and rude and all...it's just my common
sense warning device going off....

Hey! no prob Dave, I agree some have had alot of problems
with W2K, but a lot of us have it working flawlessly
running all our apps and games who knows why ? I built my
own system to my configs and its my OS of choice. I really
did not have that many probs with 98
neither its basically personal preference but
XP........woo.....another story ...... :)

running under win2k.

System specs:
Gigabyte 7zx mother board (VIA chip set)
AMD 1.1 Althon
Elsa Geforce Ultra 64mb
Sound blaster Live value
Win98se
256mb ram

Nascar 3 and 4 both lock up at random times. Sometimes in the menu
screens, sometimes after making 5 laps. I read somewhere there maybe a
problem between the geforce and the althon and tried the proposed
"fixes" but cant get these sims to work. I also cant find where i read
about the possible conflict.

Anybody have any words of wit for me?
