Voodoo3 1000 / GPL help

Someone on the T&R Forum is having problems with GPL 1.2 and a Voodoo 3
1000, and I can't answer the question.  I think it has to do with drivers
and/or video settings. If anybody can help it would be appreciated. I think
you can get there by following this (lengthy) link:

Voodoo3 1000 / GPL help

The problem is related to Glide2.54.  He should download the latest DX7
compatible drivers which come with an updated Glide2.56.  The flickering
could be caused by enabling the triple color buffering option in his
3dfx display properties.

There is no Voodoo3 1000. He has a Voodoo2 1000. As the other guy said
you may have to try various driver versions to get it working
correctly. I used to run GPL on a V2 and it was fine from what I can
remember.

This is incorrect. There is infact a V3 1000, it is similar to the V3 2000,
but only available in AGP. In addition, it comes with only 8Mb of memory
(though of the SGRAM type, unlike the 2000/3000). The card is meant as an
OEM-only product, not available retail-boxed. It can use the 2000/3000
drivers without a problem.

Have any links or references to this?  The only Voodoo 1000 I've seen is a
Voodoo 2 and I'd be interested in reading the specs on this "V3 1000".  And
why would they give the same designation to both a V3 and a V2?  That would
be very confusing.
Thanks

Why would they give the 1000 designation to two different vid cards?
You may be correct, but I would like to see some evidence of this and
it doesn't say much for the logic of 3DFX if there is such a card.

Fueled by the award-winning Voodoo2 chipset from 3dfx, the V2 1000 PCI
turns your PC into a raging 3D game machine. The V2 1000 PCI works
with your computer's existing 2D graphics card to pump out over 3
million triangles per second to deliver today's hottest games at
insanely fast frame rates. Dual texture units on the V2

Sorry gents, I'm so used to writing Voodoo3 that it's become a habit. His
card is a Voodoo 2 1000  PCI, which is just like any other Voodoo 2 card.

Hey, just 'cos you've never seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist !!

As an employee of an independent PC retailer, I can confirm that I've built
about 10 systems with the 8Mb Voodoo 3 1000 (and I don't mean a Voodoo 2
1000 either). It's a pretty good card for the price, and is also available
retail boxed as the STB Velocity 100 (which is identical). A quick search on
the net produced a few links.

And I don't understand why having handled a V3 1000 should make me a "git".

This card does exist, and is fitted in some Presario's,

eg http://www.compaq.com.my/home/presario5800.asp

and http://www.sharkyextreme.com/archives/september99_14.shtml

and http://computerstore.fsu.edu/pc/compaq/Presario/5868/5868.htm

also,

or check out the Microsoft Windows 98 hardware compatibility list, the video
cards section.

If you go to www.3dfx.com and then click on products/V2 1000/ it shows
a photo of the box. Have a look and you will see it says V2 1000 PCI
right on the box.

You're a git because as I pointed out he was talking about a V2 and
not a V3. Yea, Dell used those OEM V3 1000's too for a while. Already
knew about them.
