NR02-Save Game-Basic Questions

by TlgtrPr » Wed, 11 Jun 2003 09:31:10

I am going to attempt to run my first full length race and have a question on
the 'save game feature.'  With two kids in the house taking 3-4 hours
uninteruppeted on the game is not likely to happen.  Looked thru the book and
couldn't find it, so here is my question.

If I save a race during the race and then have a problem does it allow me to
restart from the 'save point'?  Just where/when should I do the 'save'?

If I restart a saved game can I go all the way back and restart the race again
from the beginning?

Thanks in adavance for any help.....

As far as I know, there is no way to save a race in the middle and still
continue

Nope, NR2002 does not have a save game system. (They can save replays
from the start of the race up to the end, including speed, position,
fuel amount, etc, but can't find a way to save games during a race. hehe)

If you want a game that allows you to save games mid-race, I'd recommend
you build a DOS box and find a copy of NASCAR Racing 2. It has a dual
use: you get to play a sim with a save game, /and/ get to play a bunch
of old (and great) DOS titles that refuse to play on XP. :)

The only way you can do it is put the computer in standby, of course it cannot be used for anything between driving shifts.

the only save feature is saving your practise and qual sessions.  other than
that, you're out of luck.  I'd like to do a full race, but with a wife and a
4 year old, like you say, it aint going to happen....:o)

It isnt a full race if you can stop whenever you need time to do other things....whats the point of
setting up the full race if you run 50 laps at a time?  It completely defeats the whole purpose of
running the full length race in the 1st place.

Don't need to. Nascar Racing 3 HAS a save game, and it runs fine on D3D. You
can even upgrade your cars to 2003 here:

Maybe he wants a physics engine...

Maybe, but, it is better than Nascar 2, you can have a full race with save
game, and, why not have both, I do.

Not much better, except for the graphics ;)
Personally, I'd rather do a shorter race with real people online using a
state of the art physics engine, than be able to do a race offline against
the AI and spread it over several days. That's just me though :)

Run in Windowed mode, then pause and minimize.  Clumsy way to do it, and
yeah, Papy seriously dropped the ball leaving a save game feature out.
Amazes me that they would omit such a fundamental feature to those of us who
like to run full length race seasons, but wft, I guess no developer or game
is impervious to mistakes.

It's a ***y GAME, not real life!! It's ENTERTAINMENT, not a livelihood!
(Jeez - this argument has been around ever since GPL was released.)

It's also unrealistic to be able to pause a single player race. Drivers
can't do that in reality. Gotta pee? Hold it or***in your pants. Have
to do something for your significant other or children? Tell them to
wait until after the checkered flag drops.

If you're not wearing a drivers suit, helmet, NASCAR accepted wheel and
4 speed shifter, using the keyboard, then you're just a arcade racer.
Let's not forget about cranking the heater up to about 200 degrees.

;)
