How do you save a race during championship season?  Or did they decide to
leave this out!

The save game feature is gone. The old one was pretty lame anyways, since
you always had to start back up under yellow with the cars lined up in
standing order, as opposed to how they were lined up on the track.

Since I've now read that the save game (such as it was in previous Papyrus
sims) has been removed it looks like N2 will be the first Papyrus product
I won't purchase. I've been a long time supporter of Papy sims, but their
failure to include what to me is a KEY FEATURE mystefies me. VERY FEW OF US
HAVE FOUR HOURS TO KILL IN ONE GO!

F1GP (the first one) had a fully implemented save game facility, and it was
released in 1991. Currently F1GP2 is the only sim I'm playing - mainly because
I can save full length races whenever I like.

I don't care how good the other improvements to the game are, without a save
game I won't touch it.

Poor guy,

The save game in Nascar 1 was stupid.  I think it is great that
it was not included in Nascar 2.  This adds alot more realism
to the game.  In real life you just can't stop in the middle of a race
and finish some other time.

To solve your problem, just race shorter length races.  If you do
choose to deprive yourself of this awesome game, then I pity you.

GREAT JOB SIERRA...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!!!

You know, you could *always* run a 25% or 40% or smaller race.  In all
my nascar racing days, I have run 100% races only 2 or 3 times, and
then it's because of a league or series I was in that required a
"really long one".

the only times I save races are when I run 100+ laps and the computer
crashes or locks up.  then when I re-run it, I save it at the first
caution.

....snipped a freaking home page.....

Excuse me??
Taking the save game out adds alot more realism to the game,
yet your advice to this guy is to just run shorter length
races?  Shorter 'unrealistic' races??

Is the pause button stupid as well?  Its just as unrealistic.

I personally have never used the save game, just let it set on
pause when I needed it.  However, saying taking it out is good
because its 'more realistic' is stupid.  Taking something
out of a game that removes alot of the playability for alot
of users always is.
How much realism will they now experience only running 20 percent
races?

Not much.

That's a little harsh and rather in the same mold as those who claimed
that they wouldn't play GP2 at all because it doesn't support IPX.

It will still be worth getting N2, just means that you will need to stick
to shorter races <g>. Did you also leave ICR1 & 2 and N1 alone - after
all the implementation of the game save feature in those sims was
pointless IMHO.

Cheers,
Richard

I guess this is where the difference of opinion comes from. I don't have 4
hours to kill at a time, either. When I sit down to race, I set the race
length so that I can finish it in one sitting. That usually means somewhere
in the neighborhood of 25-40% length.

Unlike N1, you won't see a yellow come out everytime an AI car bumps the
wall, so the race won't be lengthened all that much by yellows. It's pretty
easy to just take your average lap time and divide that into the amount of
time you have to spend. If it takes 30 seconds to finish a lap at Atlanta,
then an hour race is 120 laps or about 30%.

I've said all I have to say on the subject. Sorry that we have a difference
of opinion. If Papyrus had been able to implement a real Save Game that
would save a race in progress without any other features being impacted, I
would have campaigned for it. As it was, I didn't think it was worth the
sacrifice.

I usually waited for a caution in N1 before saving my game... this worked
out best for me; However, with N2 and the lack of it... well, let's just
say it'll keep me to much shorter races (although I rarely ever run
anything over 25%-35% or so offline).
