This is the text from a full page advert placed by "MicroProse Grand Prix"
(yes that's the company name used) and HASBRO Interactive in this weeks
AUTOSPORT Magazine.

            --------------------------------------

"
Will you qualify?

ARTISTS & PROGRAMMERS
EXCELLENT PLUS BIG-HITTER BENEFITS Chipping Sodbury, Nr Bristol

Following the recent signing of a major new deal with the legendary Geoff
Crammond and the FOA, we're looking to build the No.1 eam for racing
simulation development.

You're self-motivated and a professional.
You live and breathe creativity and quality.
You have a passion for developing games for the next generation platforms.
You understnad deadlines, are a strong communicator and enjoy working in a
team as sharp as a pit-stop crew.

Your track record speaks for itself.

Artists
You're a born natural in a couple of these;
texturing, lo-poly 3D modelling, graphic design and film editing.
Knowledge of 3DS MAX, Photoshop, Fractal Painter and AniPro would be highly
desirable.

Programmers
Your C/C++, PC assembler or Playstation programming skills are proven.
You'll also be up to speed with at least one of these;
3D effects/techniques, networking and multi-player, tools programming, UI
and AI.

If you want to part of the ultimate F1 games team, please send you CV and
other relavent material to:

Guy Rawlinson
MicroProse UK

Chipping Sodbury

                                                                        ----
---------------------------------------------

Well, that makes for interesting reading.

Key points:
1) Networking and Multi-Player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) WTF is UI??
3)WTF is lo-poly 3D? (that one worries me)
4) The pure existance of this advert means that all our assumptions that
Goeff Crammond has been privately working on GP3 the past few
years and that is is fininshed and just awaiting the FOA license, well
they're ***aren't they.

I presume Geoff Crammond hasn't written much of GP3 yet because the advert
asks for Programmers who can do 3D effects, and AI.
If the 3D and AI aren't done yet, then there isn't really much that has been
done yet. And if they need programmers for 3D and artists for 3D we can
assume that GP3 will have it's own game and 3D engine, and will not borrow
that used by GP500.

Oh, one final thing. If the game ain't wriiten yet, don't expect to see it
for, well, we all know how long GP2 took.

afaik, it's a 3d model of something that looks as good as a hi-poly
one, but which is consequently faster to render, and you can get more
of them on screen.  i think < 1000 polygons is _a_ definition of
lo-poly.  going from the original hi-poly models to the lo-poly ones
is a bit of a black art, and can't be automated very well.  hence the
need for skilled people to make the results look good.

Yes, i think you're right! It think it won't be out before 2001. But still
it could mean that the driving model is writen writen and all they have to
do is paint it! Yes, I know, I'm a dreamer! Wake me up in 2002. But hey, who
needs GP3 if we have GPL?

>2) WTF is UI??

User Interface. Might apply for that one myself ... I have a few
questions for our resident brits:

Where is Bristol exactly? What's it like there? How's the standard of
living compared to other areas of the UK? What's the weather like?

And most importantly are they civilized, that is to say, do they have
high-speed internet connections there? ;-)

Re Bristol

1. Approx 120 miles due East London
2. 2nd highest Poll Tax in the country
3. House prices going through the roof (pardon pun)
4. Decent nightlife
5. Shit loads of restraunts
6. Two totally ***football teams
7. One half decent cricket team
8. 2hrs 5mins from Silverstone (on practise day)
9. Home town of Baldrick from Blackadder and Massive Attack

Oh and Chipping Sodbury has a half decent golf course

I live in Bristol! :-) It's chaos in Bristol city center at the moment, but it
should clear up. The city is one of the most trendy in England (apparently) and
Clifton Suspension Bridge must be one of the most popular suicide spots in the
country :) The Bristol 'accent' is horrible and will likely irritate you for a
while, but you get used to it. (I speak proper, by the way :)

Unfortunately in the next few years, I think they'll introduce a 1 a day
charge for driving into the center on week days :-((((((((

I've never met Geoff Crammond...

Why?
If a PSX version is produced, so what?
And perhaps PSX programming skills are suitable for development on a PC
platform.

Bristol, or "Bristol Cities", as the Poms call it, is one of the most
civilised of British centres of so-called civilisation. They actually speak
a dialect that is identifiable by other English-speaking nationalities.
The weather is excellent......for Britain.  It only rains 5 out of the 7
days of the week and on the other two days the sun occasionally appears from
behind the clouds.
Standard of living is on a par with Bangladesh..........or Liverpool.
Cost of living is low.........at the local markets the exchange rate for a
goat is still two suckling pigs or three daughters......take your pick.

Well, I'll jump to defend the original, sortof.
Note, I actually have a PSX, and just for GT!  But I do note that games that
are developed for both tend to be compromises.  You won't get as many
man-hours dedicated to making it the best that it can be on one platform.
And specifically, the interface often suffers in that it may be tailered for
the non-mouse environment.
