Looks good(not great) and almost zero filling.

First thorn that really bugs me about this game are the invisible walls
on the side of the roads. This series by now should allow you to drive
anywhere as far off the track as you want. At least put the invisible
wall 200 yards away from the road, jeez.  Hey, you can't stay on the
road, it's your own damn problem, suffer the consequences.

Next thorn is the near total lack of environment interactivity. Hit a
guard rail or cable fence and there is no damage to it?! Oooh a few
sparks, yippie. No dust. No exh smoke. Empty, lifeless villages. Can't
smash a tree down. No stones in the windshield. Heck there isn't any
windshield even, where's the damn***pit view??

Car handling is only so-so with pathetic physics but I guess this isn't
much of a sim so this is to be expected.

Can EA make driving fast any more boring? They are sure milking all they
can out of this series with almost zero advancement in any area -
hello?! this is not the 90's anymore. This game seems like a step
backwards or at best a sideways move.

I agree. Definately an arcade game, not a sim. Mildly entertaining, but I
have this strange disconnected feeling while driving. Not realistic at
all...

I agree - NFS:Porsche Unleashed was definitely light years ahead of this.  But I
have to tell you, my 8 year old was up at 7:30 am Saturday and Sunday running
from the cops in NFS:Hot Pursuit 2.  It sure seems as though we (sim'rs) are no
longer a profitable market - and the kids are getting what they want instead...

I would like to find out for myself but it only runs at about .5 fps. I
don't exactly have a slow system either. AMD 1.2 GHZ,512 meg pc133 , GF2GTS
64meg with 40.72Detonator drivers , Audigy and WinXP pro. Anyone else having
fps probs?

words of wisdom:

<snip>

I have knocked over quite a few of the tall cactuses; does that count? ;-)

The physics in the PS2 version are top notch.

The PS2 version is excellent.  I guess I will have to try this demo to see what
everyone is griping about.

Probably Nvidias ***drivers as usual that is the problem :/
Why cant they just make one set of drivers that works 100%? :(

Oh please.  If that is "top notch" physics, then 90% of the games ever
released are.  *Including* SOS1937 <G>

First time playing NFS?

Not really.

Honestly, you don't believe that, right ?

I doubt you will find it much different. Some people prefer plausible
handling and physics, and you apparently don't.

Well, the first NFS and the last one (Porsche Unleashed) has semi
realistic physics.

I downloaded the demo last night and played it for about 10 minutes.
This is the worst NFS since NFS2. PU was by far the best, followed
closely by the original NFS. First Motor City now this -- seems that the
NFS franchise has met its end.

Apart from Porsche Unleashed there hasnt been an acceptable NFS since
NFS1/SE.. That was an absolute hoot, still even have a copy sitting in view
of me now, but i dont think it'd run on XP, anyway its a bit like the test
drive series, TD3 was through the roof when it came out, but even the new
ones are worse than that and TD3 came out in 1990/91... Thats big companies
taking over for you

The invisible walls syndrome has been there from the very first NFS game on
the 3DO console. But given the relatively large number of branching paths,
it seems much reduced from earlier games. I'd love to see this level of
scenery in a truly open environment.

Just as an aside, Test Drive is coming back to the PC, too. EBGames.com has
it done for a release 12/23.

Note that your drivers are still betas. I had trouble with the newest
drivers in Mafia under ME, and have since retreated to the previous ones.

Just a note for Radeon 9700 owners.  Be sure to install the latest 6193
drivers (link on front page of www.rage3d.com) or you'll likely experience
hangs.  The game doesn't recognize my custom WinXP controller and so the
brake pedal doesn't work.  Not that it matters in this game :)
