No test with an actual XP1800, but by doing a bit of interpolation, I'd
say it would give you a rough idea of what to expect

I imagine you'd see a very noticeable improvement. I went from a Ti4200 to
a 9700 Pro on a dual XP 1800+ system, and it's been great. I have a
feeling my mobo and/or CPU's holding me back a little due to my framerates
and 3DMark scores, but I'm hooked on dual (for audio). Anyway, the biggest
improvement I saw was in the AA and Aniso performance. I can run 4x FSAA,
8x Aniso, details maxed, and a full 36 car field in GTR without it being
unplayable. The framerates aren't very high, but other than at the start,
it's still very playable. With the Ti4200, the game was a bit rough even at
2x FSAA and slightly reduced graphics options. Note that this is all at
1024x768x32.

The most important thing, I found, when using a Herc 9700Pro + XP1800, was
the motherboard. Seriously.
I had a Asus A7V266-E and it doesn't run the 9700Pro well at all. What
happened was when I started the PC from cold, only half of the ATI's options
were available and the rest were greyed out. And it wouldn't run ANY 3D app
or game. But, if I re-started the PC, everything was fine.
Graphically and speed wise you will see a tremendous increase in
performance, though ...if it works ! I upgraded my PSU, thinking that was
the problem, and then after a week or so of struggling, regretfully swapped
the ATI for a Gainward 4600. Still a great card, but it's no ATI 9700 Pro.
It's something to bear in mind if you buy the ATI.
