but the connection always times out?
Who knows how to solve this problem?

Who knows how to solve this problem?
Rene
Hope that helps :-)

Both comps were on the net of course

What I did was... I hosted the normal way and selected both TCP addresses to
receive connections. Then after that I just made sure the server.ini file had
"allow connections = 1" for both those TCP addresses. Works slick and I don't
have to install IPX :-)

Internet
|
--------HUB-----------
| |
(200.1.1.1) (200.1.1.2) <- Ethernet card #1
GPLHOST PC
(172.16.0.1) (172.16.0.2) <- Ethernet card #2
| |
--------HUB (LAN)-----
My setup is show above. In order for your PC to connect to the GPLHOST using the
LAN, both the GPLHOST and PC need 2 ethernet cards (you said both were connected to
the net so I assume that meant a direct connection).
You might have the following setup, which would work too but to connect via LAN
only.
Internet

Firewall

--------HUB-----

(200.1.1.1)
GPLHOST PC
(172.16.0.1) (172.16.0.2)

--------HUB (LAN)-----
Sounds like you had a network issue Martyn.

Cable modem connected to HUB, each pc with 1 NIC connected to the hub
i probably did have a network issue, I dunno alot about it

1. IPX was not installed on both machines or
2. They were using the wrong packet type or
3. GPL was not setup to accept IPX connections.
The main benefit of using IPX would be saving a connection for you in a full race. Warp
really isn't an issue using 3/84 settings on a LAN.

Thanx Jason

I wouldn't have thought a hub made any difference.
Cheers
