New graphics card makes GP3 run slow?

by pjgt.. » Sun, 23 Jun 2002 02:20:33

Hi all...

I've just upgraded my graphics card from a 16mb Voodoo 3 2000 to a
64mb Hercules Prophet 4500 Kyro2 card (in an effort to get GTA3 running)
and all my other games work great except for GP3.

No matter how I try and set up GP3 it runs painfully slow. The Voodoo3 was
awesome compared to this! I could run with some options and effects turned
off at constant 25fps and keep at roughly 100% cpu usage easy (at 1000 x
800 res).

Now with the bare minimum options on and at a lower res it can only manage
about 10fps and stutters like hell and cpu usage is up around 300%.

I'm using win98se
Directx 8.1
GP3 season 2000 and GP3xPatch

I haven't changed anything else so I assume its the graphics card or
drivers? I'm using the standard default drivers that came with the
graphics card on the CD.

Any help getting GP3 back to "normal" would be appreciated.

Same here.

I gave up on getting GP3 (GP4 arrived) to work after switching from
V5 to GF4 4200. Result was slow motion driving as well.

Did you try a reinstall of GP3? Maybe the card detection is somewhat
screwed up in GP3... (I already see the posts coming up, saying everything
was screwed up in GP3 ;)

Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change
to take effect. Reboot now?

This is a know problem. GP3 has a kind of 2D/3D video subsystem, has is very
bad on Kyro based boards. There is no solution for this. Check it here:
