Apologies to everyone who has already read this.
But with my V5 I have to turn off one of the chips to get GP3 to run
acceptably. If that sounds a bit drastic, it's not, it's just a setting in
the '3dfx Tools' control panel.
If the V5 is running with just one chip, GP3 is extremely fast, but with
both chips it goes only half as fast. I know that probably sounds strange
but it's true. I've also had confirmation from 3dfx that there is some kind
of problem there, although they wouldn't say whether it's just a simple
driver bug or a design flaw. Also they didn't sound particularly bothered
to do anything about it.
The problem also occurs, although to a much much smaller degree, with GPL,
Thief and Superbike 2000. These games are a few fps faster with only one
chip than running with both.
Based on that I would say if you are buying a GP3 card then get the GeForce
2 GTS.
