GP2: new graphic card?

by Carlos Da Silv » Thu, 12 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Hi everybody!

I use GP2 on a Pentium 100 PC with a Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM graphic card
(with 2MByte RAM). Somebody told me, that simply by replacing the graphic
card by a better one, there would be a *huge* improvement of the frame
rate. Is that true? What improvement can I expect?

Any comments are welcome!

Bye.

Don't expect any noticable improvement, if you get any at all

Check this site: http://www.zip.com.au/~davidg/GP2/gp2pop.html
(somebody has to advertise it, isn't it :) People post there their
hadware setups and GP2 performance.
From the data there and the experiments I have conducetd at home
(downclocking my CPU and switching between an S3 Trio64 and a
Lightspeed 128) I can safely assume that GP2 is a lot more CPU hungry
than video card speed hungry. I get more juice when going from a
P5-100 to a P5-120 than from a Trio64 to an LS128 (though the LS128
speed is about double in gp2log.txt).
I understand the price of the upgrade has to be entered into equation
also, to get the best frames-for-the buck ratio, but with my
P5-120/LS128 system the only way to go up is to upgrade the CPU.

Karim

PS: GP2 Dudes, post your perfs at this site, I _need_ to know what an
LS128 would do with a P5-166 or P5-200, is it be worth the ~$400 :)

Sincerely, Karim
