I dunno if you think you're having a spritual revelation or what, but
the signal/noise ratio of this group (and usenet in general) hasn't
changed much in the last 10 or so years.  I haven't read usenet
regularly since 95 or so aside from popping by a few groups every year
or two and I'm not entirely sure that this phenomenon you're pointing
out is particularly unique, new, or confined to this group.

[ spoiler ahead! ]

it was graham chapman's memorial service.  around the end of 1990 i
think.  bbc filmed it, and showed it on telly a while later.  john
cleese becomes the first person at a british memorial serivce to say
the word f**k, there were lots of related celebs in the congregation,
and they all sing 'always look on the bright side of life' at the end.
the whole thing starts off solemn and turns hilarious in an instant.

and a quick search found this:

http://www.pythonet.org/graham-chapman.html    (1/2 way down)

(is this the right room for OT stuff?)

Hi,

i must have been thinking for a coupla minutes what the first name was
and it eluded me.

at least the colin chapman reference made it a little more on-topic
for a change.

er no.  we're on borrowed time here. :)

Regards all,
