Undocumented GPL 1.1 changes?

by Doug Gordo » Fri, 16 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Does anyone know if there are any "undocumented" changes in GPL 1.1,
such as changing the failure probabilities for the different cars? I
was wondering because I blew the engine in my Brabham during qualifying
at Monza last night. This has never happened before, and I was not
speed-shifting either. Makes me wonder if they "adjusted" some of the
probabilities (it would be nice if they raised the Lotus engine failure
probability even higher :-)).

Interesting.

The day after I installed 1.1, I spent a couple of hours practising
Brands Hatch in the Brabham, using a setup I had developed and used
successfully under 1.0.

To my amazement, I blew the engine every two or three laps. I had to
make all the gears (except 1st) one click longer to fix it.

Racing Silverstone online last night (using Alison's Brab setup), I
also became convinced that the car is easier to drive. Specifically,
it seems to have lost its tendency to leap into the scenery at the
slightest provocation on high-speed straights. It's now a breeze to
keep in a straight line, even with fully linear steering at 14:1.

It depends..... If you were using low ride height setups in the past,
you will find that you can accelerate faster coming out of the turns
with the higher ride heights.  This may in and of itself translate to
blowing engines as you are now able to achieve higher revs than before.
