The 6x86 'patch' does not work with NASCAR2. It keeps floating around
and every once in a while I post a message like this one. It is really
for programs that 'see' the Cyrix as a 486 and wouldn't then run because
a 486 is/was too slow for them. This program 'fooled' them into thinking
that they were seeing a Pentium so they would run. They didn't need any
'Pentium only' code...just the speed (basically).
Nascar2 checks for a Pentium and if it 'sees' one it uses 'PENTIUM ONLY'
code. If it thinks you are using a Pentium and you are really using a
Cyrix it will try and execute the Pentium code and CRASH!
A Cyrix 6x86 is NOT a Pentium clone.
I'm assuming this is the patch you are talking about. ....Yes, I've seen
it listed for Nascar2 but IT DOESN'T WORK..... Misinformation dies hard
sometimes ;-)
A Rendition card is a video card (acutually a chipset on a number of
various brand cards) that certain games have been optimized to use. It
is a 3d card. http://www.rendition.com has more info about various
models, etc.. Nascar2 and ICR2 are two such games.
It has lost some luster recently as 3dfx has been the card of choice for
a lot of gamers. http://www.3dfx.com
ICR2 and Nascar2 are not optimized for 3dfx although Nascar2 is
reportedly to be ported to 3dfx.
I have an Intense 3d Rendition card in my system. I have a Cyrix also
BUT it is about to be replaced with an AMD K6 233. There are some issues
with Papyrus products and the M1 Cyrix chips. The games run but....
that's another thread ;o)
Anyway, drop the 'patch' and Nascar2 should run just fine. The Unvbe
'not found' message is OK. It is telling you that it is NOT using the
unvbe driver. Check your Readme file for more info. You might want to
try it.
Good Luck,
Alan
