Driver Demo Is Not Official

I have seen some odd posts (i think about this "game(?)).  Just what is
it?  I checked out the web page listed here but don't see anything about
it.

Thanks,

Whew, thank goddnes because that demo sucked. It gave me the impression that
Midtown Madness is the better city driving game. Even though I have the full
version of MM, the demo version of MM was excellent, even though a miniscule
part of the highway is made available, which is made favorite part of the
map since the highway goes on for a great distance.

It's a every great movie car chase scene crammed into a game. Think Grand
Theft Auto 3D, think Midtown Madness with a bigger city and better drone
traffic.

Demo was here this morning...

Buzz me on ICQ and I'll show you how to hack it for more seat time.

That Demo was not going to be released for another couple weeks.  As it
stands now, the demo is only talked about in the link you gave me.

Thanks any how :)

Hmmmm.... I don't think you read enough of the posts about the demo.

Then again, even without hacking yourself some extra time, it's possible to
beat the cop. Can't do it with losing a hubcap tho'. Personally, I think
Driver and MM can co-exist nicely. The former being more interesting to
race, the latter more fun to cruise.

Umm, I did beat the cop VERY easily, it's just that there is a 1 minute cap
on the playing time and no time to explore.
From your previous post, you HAVE to be kidding me to say that the cities in
Driver are larger than the one in MM. Combined, I don't even think it
reaches the size of virtual Chicago in MM. As long as Driver has interesting
environments and great gameplay, I'll get it. What annoys me now is that you
can hardly see the traffic lights in this game.

If anyone finds out where this demo is at now, please post it. They are
taking it off all the places!

Well, I downloaded it in a hurry, so I've got and play it alot -
modified so I can explore some. Anyway, I can give you the name of the
file and you can just do an FTP search. The file is: driverdemo.zip
I haven't checked to see if it's still on the net, but you could try.
And, no, I won't send it to anyone, it's 14 megs, which took me an hour
and a half to get. Uploading it is twice as long...

Good Luck!

I agree, what makes it seem bigger to all these people is that it has these long
stretches of road...but no side streets.  But MM is kinda bad too, they really
shrunk the city and jammed the notable places together...it would take 10 times
the space if they made the city realistic in size and kept all those landmarks.
I have not seen the PSX version, but with LA, NY, SF, and Miami it'll be larger
than MM, also this is suppsed to be fairly old (it can't be 4 months...some
files are only a month or 2 old) so maybe they added more
streets...none-the-less when I beta tested MM I was expecting something more
like this.

As far as limits on the game try the hacks I use, they make it a bit harder
since I have to shake 5 or 6 cops.  I have been able to do it in 3 turns, no
damage and no missing hub caps..so beat that. ;-)
In the dir (Driver Demo\Scripts\Missions) edit the file (mission661.dms) so you
have use these values for their selected lines:

SetMaximumCops 9
Cops_on
Cop_Respawn 99999

EnablePlayerDamage
MaxPlayerDamage 24576 //( 0 -> 4096*6 is range )

//DebugInfo 1
Countdown 215999 //demo timer

ForceFelonyRating 9
wait 1
cops_on
wait 1

Cops_off
InformPlayerById 10,3
StopTimer
wait 5000
MissionEnd

This should make it a bit tougher and let you explore the entire map...Dodge
Island would be a very cool place in the real game, it could be a "base".  I
wonder if I turn the Cops_off at the end to on if I can still be picked up for
speeding and what-not, I'll see. :-)

hehehe... I managed to ditch the one cop without losing anything in 17
seconds flat since my last post (using a different car). I 'll try to edit
in some more adversaries and see how I go. I still say Driver maps are
bigger... the downtown section is as intricate as MM's Chicago with lot's
more nooks and cranny's to explore. And from a gameplay point of view Driver
beats MM hands down.

There's one little niggle... damage increases as you keep touching a car...
eventhough  such a maneuver would incur very little extra damage (have seen
and done my share of banger racing to know it wouldn't)... it's as if the
other car were poisonous.

I noticed this too, after shaking the cops I ventured back into the garage and
lightly tapped a car, to my suprise my hood really popped up into my face and
made my view very difficult, in real life the worst thing that would have
happend was ascratch to my fender. But one thing I liked about that was the car
has a alarm which is triggered.  I wonder if you are trying to sneek away from
the cops if that alarm would alert them to your location...
