Just guessing, but I bet NL would have done at least a bit better if
it had been developed and released as an expansion pack for N3, and
sold for an appropriate price. Only real reason I bought it was
curiousity, and wanting Papy to have money for GPL2 ;).
I would imagine that right now all Papy is working on is finishing N4.
For offline racers, they have simply never released a more incomplete
product. I understand how ambitious and complicated N4 is, I'm just
sad they had to succumb to the pressure and release at the beginning
of the NASCAR season.
It would be a damn shame if Sierra uses any failings of N4 to restrict
plans for future *** sims. Papyrus! Sierra! Pay attention!
Look how old GPL is, and what a loyal following it *still* has.
I've said it before - give me a GPL-level sim of 70's F1, or late
60-70's sports cars, and I'd gladly pay $100 the day it arrived in the
store. The West brothers can get the extra $60 too if they include
classic LeMans racers ;).

translates to, Sierra/Papy change there minds not to seek profitable ***

Sadly, it's safe to say that historical sims are probably not going to
happen again.
(who desperately wanted a early 80's Group C sim).

Loyal followings is nice and all, but where is the revenue?
Be realistic.

I'm sure we'll see Nascar 5 as well :).

Can't see that there's much point to a Nascar Legends 2, after all GPL
modelled an F1 era that was totally different to today's safety-first
boring-tracks formula. The cars in NL in so much that they are big-ass
V8 heavyweights, are not that different to todays. Neither are the
tracks.
Now 70's F1 - that would be cool. If only Papyrus/Sierra would license
their GPL engine to other developers.

What is the point? GPL was a sales disaster. Who in their right mind is
going to want to use that engine on another historical sim?
Please live in the real world :)

If it was a sales disaster it probably reflects the fact that it's so hard
to learn, and didn't work well on a lot of the systems that were out there
at the time of its release.
It may also reflect a lack of interest in '67 F1, but I couldn't say for
sure.
I don't see why the physics engine itself is a drawback, as long as there is
an arcade mode for the drooling masses to enjoy.
What, when we could be driving '67 F1 cars on the original tracks? No
thanks! ;-)

Well, you can't ignore the fact that it's easier for a lot of
people to identify themselfs with today's drivers.
I personally bought GPL because it was the first to have
the Zandvoort track (i live in Holland), and i never even
had heard of guys like Rodriguez or Siffert.
GPL got me more interested in the history of racing, as did NL
with Nascar's history, but that doesn't apply to everyone, i'm afraid...
